Rather than start a new thread I figured id just edit this one. So I read Savage doesn't use the wedge anymore, Why? How common was the breaking issue with it? if/when it breaks do I have to replace it or can I leave it off the BA chassis?

Sounds like an accu-wedge. With the gun sitting on the but, put an allen wrench in the screw hole and puch the wedge out as far as it will go, then mount the action in, and screw down the screws.
Thanks that worked. I hadn't seen one yet so I was confused and the guy I got it from didn't provide a manual or anything and I didn't even think to look one up at the Savage site(oops...). Thanks again!
To start, as you have seen, all it did was make instalation a harder, The wedge intruduced stress against the action and actuly caused accuracy problems. Most people quickly figgured out that the took the thing out and the gun shot better. I never heard of one breaking.Quote:

Its up to you. Me personaly, I would, the only thing it is designed to do is hold the recoil lug aginst the stock, the same thing is achieved when you assemble the gun with the but plat down, and the muzzel up, so that gravity hold the recoil lug aginst the stock, when you tighten the screws down. If you do keep it, just use light tension on the screw, as I found that the more that it is torqued the more bind it places the action in.Quote:
