Slim to none. There's nothing wrong with the plastic....they seem to work just fine.
I'd buy one as long as it wasn't too expensive. Not really sure why Savage used plastic for the safety, considering how well made the rest of the rifle is, minus the stock of course.

I can tell you why.....because it only costs about 20 cents to make. If it were machined out of steel or aluminum it would be very difficult to duplicate the injected molded version. The only viable way would be die cast zinc, same as the trigger bracket, but that would put the manufacturing cost to about 2 bucks. 20 cents versus $2.00 x 150,000 units per year...you do the math.
Not saying it wouldn't cost more. Just say'in Id pay 10 or 15 bucks for one machined out of aluminum or steel.
Yes, I would too. I know the Axis is a "budget" rifle, but mine(stainless 223) appears to be very well made, and very accurate. I would have gladly paid a few more $ to have a steel or aluminum safety. Stronger and better appearance too imo.
Really?
The Axis/Edge has been out for 4 years, Savage has probably made somewhere between 500,000 and 750,000 units in those 4 years, and in all that time with all those guns out there I've yet to hear of a single plastic safety breaking. That pretty much tells me that you're wanting a product to address a market that simply doesn't exist.
Well, it looks like you are the only 2 shooters out of 1/2 a million Axis owners that need an upgraded safety. If you were in the after market business, how fast would you jump on this "hot" market? Just sayin' that there is not enough justification to even draw up a print, besides that, you couldn't get one machined for 10 or 15 bucks.
"Need" has absolutely nothing to do with it. I was just saying it would be nice to have the option for an upgrade to the plastic safety. I suppose that's too much to ask.
Upgrade ? Change things ? Have options ? That's unheard of around here.:p
Give Fred a break! The stocks were pretty much a need. This is just "but it would look more cool". And, RP12, I hope you were kidding about this site like the face shows. It's obviously all about upgrades, etc. The metal safety still might happen some day, but not based on urgency.
Now we are arguing over semantics?
That's enough for me.
