scope tube - no wiggle room

mounted S&B 3-12x50, 30mm scope on .223 model 10 precision carbine.
using burris signature rings on weaver #46 bases.
bases were turned to minimize distance between ring slots.
even so- the rings just touch the front and back bells of the scope tube-
there is no wiggle room for the scope tube to move forward or backward.
can not adjust for eye relief, etc.

ordered weaver rail #99495 which lies across the bolt area and has multiple slots in the base for forward tube movement.

anybody have experience with ejection problem with an across bolt area rail?

any suggestions for another approach to moving rings closer together?
