I would like to change a LRPV-repeater-DBM from .223 to .221 fireball. Can this be done as a DIY project? Would appreciate any helpful info . Thanks

Welcome to the forum.
That's as simple as a barrel change, but it may take a little tweaking to get the 221 to feed from the mag.
Good luck,
Dana
Should be a piece of cake. For a DIY, you'll need the barrel, the Go-gauge, an action wrench, and a barrel nut wrench.
It's an extremely easy job to swap barrels on a Savage. I've done several myself, and trust me, I'm no rocket scientist (you could say I put the "red" in redneck even).
;D
There are many, many great folks on here that can help talk you through it when you're ready.
Thanks for the replies all. What about modification to the mag? would it feed as is or would it be necessary to somehow change the internal dimensions ( length wise ) ?
I don't know, but I would try it without modifying first, it may actually be fine.
Do a search for "Fireball" in the forums.
They are very persnickety when it comes to getting one to feed reliably.
...It's been done useing a CZ mag slipped in a stock Savage mag...Alot of mods to it but it was posted on this sight..Just can'nt remember who did it...I just use mine as a Single shot because that's all I need..lol.. ;)..you asked about the fireball...you could just have your bbl. set back some if you want to save some money...Otherwise you're going to have to go to a custom on that large shank action...All of mine are small shank...I have a A&B bbl. that shoots lights out or the little .221AI I made out of a used Hart bbl. I picked up...It's a sweety.. ;)..

take a look over on www.saubier.com (try this link for what you are looking for) It is for a 20 Vartarg, but base on the 221 fireball.
MikeCTX, 1shot, and everyone else, Thanks for the helpful and interesting replys. 1Shot thats a nice looking rifle.
