Just finished crowning the Savage old stock gun parts barrel. Have the magnum head in the bolt. About to screw it together and see how it looks. This early F series round top rifle in 30-06 is getting a makeover. Pictures at some point. Range review if I survive.

What the heck. No scope mount screws. Something tells me this isn't a 110 action.

Seriously here, I just bought this action as part of a rifle. Had a 110 barrel screwed in. Thought that it was a 110. Where are the screw holes?
I read here recently that some had silver soldered mounts on them. I'd do a search to see if they are milled or removable.

On a side note, after looking at the picture, odd how the front base is over the action. Why do that at the factory? I vote non-milled. Any holes looking from the inside of the receiver?
No holes that I can see. Crap. Have a feeling this won't work.
Also appears to be an older flat back bolt in a round back receiver
Last 'hope' would be blind holes with the world's smoothest fill over the mount screws. Really grasping at straws here.
Did savage solder on mounts and if they did do they stay on?
Those are factory soldered mounts. Typically they stay on, but with a 375 H&H who knows.
That receiver is ome of the ones to be avoided when scouting out rifles at the local pawn shop. They're notorious for being out of alignment from front to back. Not a whole lot you can do about it, either. Most of them are E-series rifles, not F-series.
I could make this a 223 improved instead. Was just going to play with this as a 375 cast bullet shooter.
The alignment seems good. I may stick the action in the lathe and do some checks. Thanks.
I'd just run with it unless you get into scope issues. Then I'd consider another option.
I'll dig around for an appropriate scope and give it a try.

Sighted in at 50 yards. Last 3 shots spread a little over an inch. Just loaded a few starting loads with 4895 and 270 grain bullets. Need to set up the rest and sand bags next time.

Found a vintage Redfield 1 3/4-5x30 after asking on Armslist for a local scope. Ought to find some old weaver rings to complete the vintage big game look.

I'm contemplating a similar project, did you have to do anything other than the barrel/bolt head swap? Magazine follower?

Single round loaded to site in. Have to cut/weld to lengthen the mag box. Midway has the longer followers. Mill the action for the longer box. So if you want a repeater, it's a lot of extra work.
Nice looking gun, I hope it keeps you happy. Too bad you didn't post on here or check gunsamerica. I picked up a 375 H& H there a month ago for a fair price.
