Pet loads for the 6.5 Creedmoor
I am looking for what loads really perform in the 6.5 Creedmoor other than Hornady factory loads. In all weights 120 gr,130gr and 140gr. Mine doesn't shoot all that well with the Hornady factory loads 120gr Hornady "A" max with 43.5 of H4350 and 140gr Hornady "A" Max with 41.5 of H4350. Any help would be helpful. Thanks Russ

The link is to the reloading section of the 6.5 Creedmoor forum. I have a barrel that I am going to put on in the next couple of days, and then fire it up!

Let me know how you make out. I have 39 rounds through mine and I am heading for the range today with another 50 rounds all different loads and I will let you know if anything works well. Thanks Russ

Re: Pet loads for the 6.5 Creedmoor
The only load that shot well was 120gr Hornady "A" Max with 44.5grs of H4350 had (2) 3 shot groups one .375 the other .450 the .450 was a 120gr Sierra Match King with the same load.
Re: Pet loads for the 6.5 Creedmoor
What were the loads and bad group sizes ?
Re: Pet loads for the 6.5 Creedmoor
So far the loads on the factory ammo boxes seem to work pretty good for me...
140 Amax @ 2.810" over 41.5gn H4350, 210M primer
123 AMax @ 2.750" over 44.5gn H4350, 210M primer
120 AMax over some amount of Varget, 210M primer (sorry, don't have an ammo box handy)
Re: Pet loads for the 6.5 Creedmoor
The bad groups ranged from 1.25" to over 2.00" except for one with the 140gr bullets were 140gr"A" Max's 140gr & 142gr Sierra Match kings and 140gr Berger target. The loads were 32.5 of XBR8208 33.0grs Varget and 39.0 grs-41.5 of H4350. Of these 40.0 grs of H4350 was the best just under 1.00"
Re: Pet loads for the 6.5 Creedmoor
If it doesn't shoot one of the loads Memilanuk posted, ain't nothing else gonna help much. ;D
Worked up this load with a 26" Criterion barrel in 1-8 Twist.
Took Hornady's published data and loaded the 129 SST with Superformance powder. Hornady's max load with a 24" barrel is 46.7 so I started at 45 and worked up to 45.7 and hit a good node there. Don't have a chronograph but out of a 26" barrel they should be moving at or a bit over 2800fps. Looks like I found a great hunting load. First four shots were .27" and the fifth opened it up a bit. Used Hornady brass and Federal 210 primer. OAL=2.690 which is Hornady's book OAL.
Also I would suggest the 130g Norma Golden Target bullets. They are among the highest quality bullets I have ever bought. As far as I am concerned they are "the bullet" for the 6.5 Creedmoor. They fill a niche that is lacking in Hornady's lineup. Loaded right, they will outperform both the 140 and 120 AMAX bullets at long range. http://www.neconos.com/category/Bullets-17
Re: Pet loads for the 6.5 Creedmoor
I use the 120 A Max loaded with 46.5 grain of Ramshot Hunter and CCI BR primers. I haven't chrony'ed them but with the groups I am getting, pretty sure speed won't matter. I have several other bullets on the shelf to try but haven't got around to testing them yet. "These groups were from it's second outing. They are consecutive groups with a slight scope adjustment after the first one, 300 yards.

+1
I have heard that the Ramshot Hunter is good stuff.
Re: Pet loads for the 6.5 Creedmoor
It has similar burn rate H4831 meters like salt. I have used it in .243, 6-284, 6.5-284, 22-243, 6.5 creedmoor and loaded some for a buddy in 7to mag.
Re: Pet loads for the 6.5 Creedmoor
How temperature stable is it ?
Re: Pet loads for the 6.5 Creedmoor
I haven't noticed much if any differences with it in any of the other rounds over the last two years.
Re: Pet loads for the 6.5 Creedmoor
kida hate bringing up a old post but this is right in line with what i want .
how does your loads do at longer distances? buck the wind pretty good? havent seen to much for shooting past 100ydswith this round
Re: Pet loads for the 6.5 Creedmoor
I haven't shot for groups past 300 yards. The furthest I have been with it is 850a yards shooting 12x18" steel. I definitely need a smaller plate. After getting drop and wind it is boom--clang everytime. I did buy some H4350 to try with some 140 class bullets. Have had no luck with Hunter and 140's.
