Don't have a pic at hand but the Boyd's Prairie Hunter is a really fine stock. Mine is for a long action Savage 110 with blind center feed magazine but they also have the same thing for short actions. They are already inletted for your center feed magazine with the L clip.IMO the Boyd's stocks are a great buy and a great stocks.
excellent. i have had 2 before but not for a savage. i think i will take your advice. have not had a prairie hunter.
I'm looking at getting a Boyd's stock also.. Would you get the stock first or spend that money on a better trigger?
what kinda trigger do you have? if it's anything other than the axis, you should be able to adjust it or pay a smith $40 to make it a nice trigger. but yeah the trigger would come first. unless you're ok with it for now and want the stock
I got factory trigger in my Stevens 200 and its okay for now... I think I'd rather have the stock..
have you adjusted it at all? if not, take it out of the stock and turn it upside down. see the silver screw with the wire coming out? turn that counter clockwise a couple turns and try the trigger again. make sure the safety still works and that it won't go off if jarred. after i adjust them i put them back together and slam the bolt home a few times and bump the butt pad on the floor a few times...make sure it's not going to go off if you drop it.
I've not messed around with it yet... I was going to order a trigger pull guage before I started on it.. Thanks for the help...
Oh, If I get a Boyd's stock, I really dig that Nutmeg color...
forget the gauge. if it feels good to you who cares what the weight is- save your money. i like the nutmeg too, i have one on my mauser.
Here are two of mine, both in Boyd's Classic stocks. The top is an Interarms MkX in .35 Whelen that I have had for quite a few years. The bottom is a .338 Federal that I just received the stock for today. If you notice in the pic the new one (bottom) has a relieved area on both sides of the forearm for your fingertips where the older one (top) does not. I really like the feel of the new one. I like Boyd's stocks. They require very little work, if any at all, for a good fit.

And does this without too much work. Still working on a load for it but it is just about close enough for me.

Do they make them for a L/A SF with a varmint barrel? I couldn't find one with anything but a sporter barrel channel.
A 260 I help a friend build. This particular stock was ugly on this side. The worst I've seen. All the rest are purdy.

Just my .02 from my experience, I know a lot of people adjust their triggers in this manner but I have had safety issues with this adjustment. If the wire (spring) is too flat then it may not reset the trigger fully and can lead to iffy trigger/ sear engagement. this can cause the rifle to either not cock properly which is no more than a pain in the neck OR to discharge when the bolt is closed or when the safety is moved from the safe position to the fire position. This is downright dangerous. It is far preferable to replace this spring (wire) by making one with a piece of music wire, piano wire, spring steel wire whatever you want to call it that is at or a little above .043 diameter. KEEPING THE ARCH IN IT IS CRITICAL to the correct operation of these parts and avoiding a possible dangerous situation.
To those who have made the adjustment recommended prior to my suggestion I strongly suggest that you re check your rifle and make sure that you have plenty of arch in the trigger return spring. Just because everything has seemed fine and you haven't had a negligent discharge yet. doesn't mean you wont. The internet is full of BAD info and I cringe every time I see someone recommending to take some of the arch out of the trigger return spring. Replacement with a suitable spring is a much better option.
All that just to say the trigger spring needs preload? :bolt:
Yup, hopefully in an explanatory fashion easily understood by anyone reading it, and to keep someone from sending hot lead in an unintended direction (hopefully not mine) at the wrong time and place either making them crap themselves or everyone around them crap themselves or possibly hurt themselves or someone else or multiple persons and blow a hole in a vehicle or vehicles or building or buildings either up close or way off in the direction their muzzle was pointed when the negligent discharge happened. Centerfire rifles are very potent tools. Unsafe tools around me make me nervous
All that to say
I hope I can prevent a negligent discharge.
Older Boyd's Super Varmint Stock (I think thats what they used to call it). I think it was actually one of the first ones of this model that they made for a short action Savage with a Bull Barrel. They sent me two...this one and the Pepper Laminate one and had me pick which one I liked best.

I just ordered a Boyds Classic in nutmeg for my 110 .308. I also ordered a rifle basix sav1 trigger for the gun. Should have it all together in about 2 weeks.
No sir, I dont believe so. I think they are strictly thumbhole now.

i called boyds about 2 maybe 3 years ago looking for a lefty savage stock.
i was told they made (no) lefty stocks at all.
stockys told me they only made a few for rems. no savage.
apperently thats changed?
This is not a good picture but it is their thumbhole varmint, I think the color is forest camo or something like that.

Does boyd ship new action screws to match the stock?
Mine were a different length and im having issues finding the correct length
I did not find any hardware in mine but the local ace hardware store has a good collection. The regular home improvement stores have the s screws with the big Allen head if you dont mind those. Sometimes you will just have to cut it as the size you might need is not normally manufactured.
Ok thanks Bill
Its just kind of reminds me of the style of the tacticool. Which I kind want, but they wont ship them up here to canada.
I love those classics!
I have been keen to do a "Custom Classic" something that uses the Classic Stock with a Tapered Fluted Sporter Barrel and Ceracoted Flat Black... Mm... Kinda old, kinda new....
Here is my Rimfire MKII That I had a Heap of work done on, It was a standard MKII SS but wear the Rimfire Hunter Stock in Forest Camo
http://i816.photobucket.com/albums/z...pse7d655d9.jpg
do they make a stock for the axis???
At this time there are no commercial replacement for the axis stocks. If you do a search in the forum you will see the current options for the axis stocks are:
Reinforce the tupperware stock
or
Get a stock with some general dimensions close to the axis and do your own inletting.
Right now we have 2 threads for aftermarket stocks that have been proven to work on the axis with some wood work and aftermarket parts. One is a choate stock the other one is a BSA CF-2 stock. There is also a thread and I believe also a tutorial on reinforcing the tupperware stock.
Good luck.
damit i like the boyds stock
they are nice and I am planing to try to inlet one for my 4th gun which will be an axis. I will post it here once I am done but it will be fall before I get the axis...
Mate, are you a paid member?
This is from the Article section and you need to be a paid member to view them..
http://www.savageshooters.com/conten...d-Barrel-Stock
A small snippet from that article,
The ProHunter stock for Axis rifles is billed as a universal design that can be used for both hunting and punching paper from the bench. The vented 2-1/4” wide low profile beavertail forearm provides a stable platform when shooting from a rest, yet will still fit most hands for offhand hunting and shooting. The grip is more vertical than the factory version for more comfort and the toe angle is significantly decreased for more stability when using a rear sand bag.
Its a Laminate... looks a nice stock...
I would pay just to read about that Axis project as it seems to be right up your alley... A great read and very informative.
Has anybody inletted there boyds for a DBM?
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...psca82f39a.jpg
I sprang for all the options on my 111.
Boyd's Classic in Forest Camo
Ebony forend tip and grip cap
Laser stippling in pattern #1
Decelerator Recoil Pad (shooting 208 AMAX's)
Almost too pretty to take hunting :-)
Kevin
Oh you naughty man... that is too nice...
Boyd's with DBM inlet by me with a dremel tool.

Exactly what I was thinking of doing for my 116 but I was thinking of different color stock and checkering option. Glad you posted this so I could get a good look. I am a big Boyd's fan; I have a few now and have never been dissatisfied with anything I have bought from them. And by the way, yours looks VERY nice! I do however wish that they would offer the classic style stock in the JRS pattern again. I like the fluted forearm on the new design but I'm an old style guy and like it better without the flutes. My .35 Whelen wears the JRS and it just looks more "classic".
Rangewolf, a dremel and a mill bit. Probably a couple of hours to whittle all the wood away. Worth it to have a DBM thumb hole.
I forgot about this one. http://www.stockysstocks.com/servlet...vage-10/Detail For the price this stock already inlet would be hard to beat. Unless, you can get a deal on used thumbhole.
Boyds classic stock on my early (F0005XX) F series 110. It's .308 LA with a Leupold VXII 3-9 X40 scope on it. The stock is nutmeg laminate with Pachmayr recoil pad, black grip cap, checkering, lazar engraved initials by the bolt handle. Factory trigger with modified tension screw. 2 1/2 lbs and solid as a rock. I LOVE this rifle!!

Boyd's prairie hunter
Nutmeg laminate
Strippling #1 pattern
Lazer engraved whitetail deer head
pachmayr recoil pad
Pillar and devcon bedded
Model 16 Trophy Hunter 7mm08
Results are 3 shot group at 106 yards
120 gr Nosler Ballistic
To say the least: I am a happy camper!

First is my cousin's, a Prairie Hunter in Nutmeg with laser engraving holding a 110 action in 224TTH with a Douglas bbl. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/11/12/dydyvesa.jpg
Next is my Classic in pepper holding a 110 action in 224TTH and a 24" Douglas bbl. I shot that buck at 615 yds on the first shot.
I bedded both and free float the barrels.
ok, heres my lastest build for deer hunting. I find myself walking a lot during rifle season. several miles a day, sometimes in 6-12" of snow, uphill, big hills too darn it, lol. j/k
anyway, picked up a model 16 6.5 creedmoor and a boyds classic with the checkering, caps, and bedded it with araglass gel.
I've got a set of luepold med rings on it now but I'm going to try a set of lows and see if they will work better.
so far I like it
