Hi-wall - first I would like to thank you for the positive post and thank you for your recent purchase as well!! Just an update for everyone - lead time will now be our normal/standard for all Axis stocks! If it is In-Stock it will ship in 1-2 business days, Out-of-Stock will ship in 1-2 weeks from date of order. No more 4+ week lead times!!
Best Regards ~ Jen
Yesterday when I called about status of my order I was told "about 4 weeks" for the 2 Axis stocks I ordered. The day I ordered the stocks (Feb. 27) a guy on the phone tells me "within 2 weeks"...
I guess maybe I'll add 'em all up, take an average, shake the chicken bones, see if the wooley caterpillars are nesting early & hope I see my stocks before I'm too old to use them.
I would be happy to look into the status of your order - could you please PM with a name and order number. I apologize for the confusing information you seem to be receiving!
~ Jen
Jen - what's the lead time on custom orders? (I.e. Claro XX Walnut with checkering and Rosewood grip cap and forend tip.) I didn't see mention of lead time for the customs on the custom option page.
Also, have you stopped offering left-hand stocks for short-action staggered-feed rifles with a blind magazine (4.275" screw spacing) or did they simply get overlooked in the menu updates? I looked through all the model options (10/11/12/16 Top Bolt Release) but every action option is for either blind centerfeed or detachable box magazine.
By the way, sent ya a PM, Jen.
Thanks for looking up my order...
Just got my notice. They're on the way. The anticipation is killing me.
Jen - check your PM's.
Patience?
Isn't that what they call people in a doctor's office?
And at my age patience is all I have left.
I think.
Don't forget, my birthday's at the end of this month. I like expensive gifts.
Make it an extra special gift, too. This is the last year I'll be in my 50's...
We'll expect a full report.
I won't see mine until mid week, next week.
Weather & snow storms notwithstanding, of course.
Frank having a party for you bring you own ammo
seen 6 wild cattle last week, no brands, BIG BBQ
drybean
You're all heart. Just what I've always wanted. Snow...
It'll help remind me why I left NY so many years ago & never looked back.
And as for that 60 is the new 50 stuff, I'm not buying it. 60 sucks. I wake up every morning wondering what's going to hurt next.
Just might be from all of that good clean living I did back in the late 60's and 70's....
Was looking at the Boyd's website last night planning on ordering a stock for my LH .223, lo & behold they added two new designs - a "Heritage' & a "Platinum". Anyone have an idea what the "Heritage" is as they didn't provide any description. Also, does anyone know the difference between the standard pattern & the 90 degree? They show it in hte wood type section but offer no description.
Thanks for the info.
Just what I need to do. Spend more money on gun stuff. My 'ol lady's threatening to suffocate me with a pillow in my sleep now. Especially after she found out I just bought 2 more spam cans of 5.45x39 mil-surp ammo. I tried to explain that tensions in Russia & Ukraine were driving prices up.
She mention something about driving the car up someplace. I didn't catch all of it....
Boyd's has posted the info on the Heritage & Platinum stocks. Basically they changed the fore ends a bit to allow for some custom laser work
I forgot to ask Boyd's or some of y'all here about what kind of recoil pad can I expect on these new Axis stocks I'll be receiving tomorrow.
Will I need to duct tape a bath towel to my shoulder or are they tolerable? On a scale of 1 to 10 - 10 being soft like a puffy cloud and 1 (one) being like hardened steel with spikes pointed out of it, what are they like?
edit - I just looked at their website and noticed a "Boyd's 1/2" rubber recoil pad" included. Just wondering if it's rubber- as in soft or rubber- as in rock hard typically used to make golf balls....
Frank,
In my limited experience of 2... golf ball.
Guess I'll get the duct tape and an old towel out....
Ordered a Prairie Hunter Sunday evening, it was shipped yesterday & is scheduled to arrive Friday. I know what my plans for Friday are now!
UPS tracking says both of mine are on the truck for delivery today. I guess I'll be spending my day waiting by the mailbox. I have my lawn chair & iced tea all set. Got the sun block, reading material and phone to keep occupied while I wait it out.
This will probably be the day UPS runs late...
Here's to hoping you don't have to wait ALL DAY, but if you do have to wait it sounds like you have the perfect day planned to keep you busy! We up here in SoDak may be a tad jealous as we just got 4 inches of snow yesterday
Can't wait to see pics!!
~ Jen
Well Jen, they got here about an hour ago & I've been fitting them up in between making & smoking bacon wrapped sausage rolls. I got tired of waiting and started the smoker up. As luck would have it the UPS guy rolls up 30 minutes into a good smoke.
The stocks look great & fit very well, too. In between tending smoker and enjoying this 75 degree day without snow (hehehehehe), I'm opening up the barrel channel to keep those truck axle barrels floated.
I'll keep y'all posted and try to get a pic or 2 up later...
Thanks for your help, too.

The .223 Axis. Boyd's Prairie hunter stock in Pepper. I got it in Last Friday. Mounted with no time to check zero. I was at the farm helping my friend put up a storm door. I saw a crow out in the hay meadow. Called it 200 and held on the neck. Almost decapitated. I think it held zero
Now to order a Tacticool for the varmint barreled .308 build
Jen @ Boyds I sent you a PM,thanks
I posted a couple pics in the "pic post" (Axis & Edge) section if anyone what to have a look. Definitely changes the feel of the Axis. Having the thicker grip for my monster mits helps a lot, too.
Finally got all my parts in & of course it's too late to do any shooting. Oh well, now I have all week to day-dream about shooting it. .233 in Boyd's Prairie Hunter Nutmeg stock. Nitrex TR-1 3x9-42 scope on EGW base with Weaver Quad Lock rings.
looking good.
makes me wish I had went with nutmeg oh well still have two more to stock
My nutmeg PH is sked to arrive on Wed. Can't wait. 2 weeks from order to ship.
I spent the day shooting both of mine with the Classic model stocks. They definitely feel more stable and easier to handle. Also, the forest camo color scheme looks really cool in the sunlight. Nice workmanship on them.
I'm really pleased with them although the recoil pads leave much to be desired. I was used to the nice soft pads that the Axis has as original equipment. The pad on the Boyd's feels like a piece of concrete against my shoulder.
Other than that, I give them 4.75 out of 5 stars. They lose .25 of a star for the recoil pad. Kinda reminds me of a slab of tire rubber attached the stock. Anyone considering a Boyd's replacement may want to consider any options they have for recoil pads.
That aside, I feel it was a well spent $99. Makes the Axis feel totally different.
PS - Jen, check your PM's
Important...
Frank, I was thinking the pad looks good, anyhow.
That's all that counts. :)
Good point. With the short profile of the pad it looks OK but it's pretty rough on the bones. Usually when we shoot for the day it's kinda sorta important to have a comfortable recoil pad. After 5 or 6 hours it starts to feel like somebody's throwing a cement block at your shoulder.
For what it's worth, my wife loves them. She mentioned many times about hating the black plastic stocks. She commented the 25.06 feels much more comfortable to shoot except for the pad.
Yesterday she popped off a 85gr Nosler out of my 25.06 and hit a 16oz. water bottle at 200yds. I watched it thru the spotter & it was a clean dead center shot.
All in all, they're a major improvement to the Axis and the price is right.
Yeah, I'll leave the stock pad on the .223 but for the .308 and the 6.5-06 I'll replace with a decellerator
Have a Tacticool otw, with the Limbsaver upgraded pad. Time will tell.
My Nutmeg Prairie Hunter arrived today - its beautiful! I bought mine with a couple of options. The stippling is nicer than I thought (it was a little difficult to see in the small pictures on the website), and I bought the SS trigger guard; it complements the SS trued barrel nut from NSS on the blued 25-05 barrel (also from NSS). I stayed with the "stock" Boyds recoil pad, so the jury is still out. Scoped out it weighs 8lbs 6 oz (1 lb heavier than with the plastic factory stock).
I'm going to purchase another Boyds stock for my 12 FLV (.223), and will order it with checkering instead, and will need to figure out what recoil pad I want for it. I'm thinking I'm going to go with the red Apple Jack for it so I won't mix it up with the Sporter.
Before I buy the next one, I need to spend some time behind the scope to see how I like the LOP.
