Just got my email back from jim and he said he's still not received my barrel yet
Boo, hiss. :(
As for the powder difference, it's hard to say since I don't use RL-7 in the .308. I have used RL-15, but it's a different burn rate, so there is no good way to compare apples to apples.
Based on the velocities I saw when I tried H4895 in the 7.62x39, I would have to load that with close to 30 grains to equal what 37 grains in the .308 produces. I'm sure the size of the case/chamber creates more pressure with the smaller round, which is why we get better velocities with less powder. But I don't know that for sure. I'm still a little cloudy on how case size and room inside the case, seating depth etc. affect pressure.
What I have learned now is that I have a surplus .308 since my 7.62x39 can do anything my .308 did with reduced loads, and my 7x57 with strong hand loads gives me a 300-yard elk gun which is more than I may ever need anyway.
I got my stainless top bolt release from Numrich tonight and after about 10 minutes of fitting I now have a top bolt release LWH action.[emoji2]
Wooo hoooo! Now if I could just get my stock and barrel

Very nice!!!!
My stock was supposed to be here on Monday but it wasn't so I called and they said that they are cutting it this coming Monday. I'm getting ready to email Jim to see if my barrel was on his last shipment
I have a thought. With the 308 dia barrel have any of you looked at the 155 Amax for target work?
Futurerider you have my simpathies I am waiting on a barrel my self. I look forward to seeing how this turns out when you get the rest of it.
Big update! Jim got a hold of me today and said that my Barrel came in Tuesday and he should have it done in about 2 weeks or sooner!
Stock and barrel should be here any time!
Woooooo hoooooo my stock arrived today!!!!!!!
I started working on my stock tonight. I have 3 hours in it now with 60 grit sand paper by block and hand and I'm making progress. The striping in the stock really pops when it is wet

going to be a beautiful stock
Lots of hours in doing one but the end result is worth it
Jack
The pictures don't do justice on how dark it is. It's not real dark by any means but I'd not as blonde as it looks in the pictures.
I'm not sure if I'm going to put a strain on it or not. Either way is going to be glossy
I did a little more work today. I had to remove about 1/2in from where the trigger is on the inside of the stock and had to clearance where the sear bends at the bottom as well as radius the back of the mag well at the corners to make the action fit square.
I'm pretty close to being sanded out at 60 grit right now. I don't have a palm sander so all the sanding has been done with a block sander by hand(I'm on my way to go buy a palm sander now). Anyways thought I'd give an update with some pics.
Oh Jim said that he put the rough cut on my barrel yesterday and it should be sent out beginning of the week.

Nice looking stock. You're gonna love that rifle.
I'm sure I will. My Barrel got sent to my old address in Tennessee last week luckily enough we were able to intercept it and Jim got it back Saturday and sent it to me today
HO-LEE CRAP! IT'S HEEEEER!!!!http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...5ac605f2a1.jpg
Now I have to open up the barrel channel, pillar the stock, finish shaping the stock and lay down the lacquer and have the barrel bead blasted to match the action and probably get some low Burris Zee rings
Crap just my luck. There are several issues with the barrel. I've contacted Jim and will be waiting for a response
What kind of issues?
I'm curious about the issues as well.
Wrong profile, imperfections in the rifling(not Jims fault), wrong finish.
To be honest is been bugging me all day. Waiting that long and got all excited when I got the delivery confirmation and now I just expect to be out another 4 months
It's official. Tomorrow morning my barrel hours back to Jim at apachegunworks to have him inspect the barrel and possibly have a replacement from x-caliber
Ok before I packaged the barrel up tonight to send off I ran a patch through it just to see and the imperfections inside the barrel are not there now. The barrel still had to go back to be re contoured and the finish matte but at least it won't be out 4 months for a new barrel
Sorry forgot to update. I got the barrel back after a week or so and it is now contoured correctly.
Now I'm trying to decided on what method to go through with pillars but it looks oh so nice. Once I get the pillars in I'll make the final decision on finish but I'm thinking of just putting a extra gloss lacquer finish on it without a stain. Openions?

Is the bottom of your lug hitting the stock holding the action and barrel high?
