Ready for maiden trip to the range!
Cabelas just marked the 204 to $329, the 223 and 22-250 down to $349. I just pulled the trigger on a 223, I hope that it is as good as what I have seen here.
Started to take this thing out hunting this year and thought better. I'd have to carry it with the barrel down because it's barrel heavy. Anyone know what the weight difference would be hacking off 6"? I'm not a bench shooter so I'll either hack it or sell it. Honestly hate to hack it when a bench shooter might be out there looking for one. 500 yds would be the furthest I'd hunt....and that would be a stretch.
You can sell the barrel or trade it for a lighter factory barrel. Cutting it down would no make a huge difference in weight, kill the barrel value, cost more (unless your doing it yourself) to cut straight and crown than just buying a good used barrel. The barrel is more practical for Varmint and target shooting, I agree.
Agree. I've got a few bites at work for buyers, but I think they are waiting for tax time.....who knows when that will be lol. thanks for the comments.
Brought my new 12 fv 22-250 home yesterday. Scoped the tube and find some really bad pitting about an inch and a half from the muzzle. It covers 2 lands and the groove between them. Its apparant it was a flaw in the steel before machining. I'm going to see how it shoots. If it's really bad I can take 2 inches off to get rid of it. Good price on the gun and the cheap stock is better than the old ones were.
I have cut down several of my 12FVs with nothing more than a hacksaw, sander, and a shell reamer to re-crown them. They all shoot 1/2"... On my .233 cutting of 6" saved 14oz, and that is 14oz of heavy mass swinging from the end. It makes a noticable difference in the handling.
Just bought a 12FV at Cabelas Sat. Noticed you cannot choose 12FV in the R 9840 rebate form. Called Vista, waited 14 minutes to get a person. Explained the problem, she said to use R9828 for a $50 rebate. I told her that promo ended 12/31/18. She said it was good till 1/31/19 wrong! I remember the good old days when companies had real customer service. Big buying groups suck.
BBQ365, Where did you find the link to the 12FV $60 rebate. The folks at Vista act like it doesn't exist. I told them the sell at Cabelas and the rebate was the only reason I bought the gun. Looks like I'm stuck without a rebate.
Use the one at BassPro and mail it in: https://basspro.scene7.com/is/conten...1811148705.pdf
I've been on the phone for a half hour with Vista. They have sent the link to someone higher up to see if they will honor the rebate. Said they would get back within a week! Buyer beware!
I mailed mine at the end of November. I haven't heard anything. Keep us posted.
Mailed mine in mid December. Just checked online status and nothing is found. Figures!
I intend to pursue this till the end. I own 13 Savage rifles. I didn't need the one I bought Sat. But at $349 plus the rebate it was a no brainer. It makes me sick to think what has happen to our gun companies when families that were proud to run there family businesses sold out to bean counting buying groups. Nuff said.
Vista called me back yesterday and told me to use Rebate R9840 and choose axis as 12fv is not one of the chooses. I completed the form online and got a submission ID#. So looks like it went thru. Time will tell!
Great. Thanks a lot. I'll pull the trigger.
I went to BassPro website https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/sava...t-action-rifle and they have a link to click on (blue tab) that has a rebate form as you listed R9840 with a picture/label of a 12fv on it. How Vista could not know of this IDK? This isnt like its the first time for rebates either, and last time it wasnt (12fv) listed and we got $100 then. I dont think they would have fired everyone there from last winter, someone has to remember. I could be wrong.
My 9840 on the 12fv shows pending.
20 practical. 26" Tube XLR chassis. Swagger bipod & Viper II 3x18 scope.
Love the caliber hope it shoots as good or better than my AR. Thanks for all the help on the forum & feeding the addiction.

I am going to diligently start following this thread, so I can score a good deal and add one to the collection.

Well my new 22-250 is a solid 2 MOA gun so far! Not very pleased. I worked up several loads with 55 Vmax, 52 Sierra HPBT, 52 Speer HP with Varget. Back in the day I allways used H4895, but I have 8 lbs of Varget I need to burn. Thought I might find a load quick, but guess it's going to be a journey. As posted earlier the barrel has a pitted place about 1 1/2 inches from muzzle. If I can't get it to shoot I'll have to decide wether to cut it down 2 inches or rebarrel. I will probably restock it just to be assured it's not a tupperware problem. I was amazed the trigger went down to just over 1 lb.
You might try heavier bullets. My Axis HB in .223 likes 69 and 77 gn best (SMK's or Norma match). I have shot lighter bullets but they usually end up over 1" at 100yd. I suspect the faster twist is partly to blame. I also use Varget and it works great for me.
Check your barrel for copper fouling. I had trouble with my BVSS (.308). I ended up removing all the copper and then using Iosso paste on the throat several times. Much better now. Still not a 1/2MOA rifle but I think it might get there.
I have not done a lot with my .22-250 12FV but I know it's very accurate with factory Hornady 55 vmax...
If its under warranty I would send it back. Then you have the option to take the replacement barrel off and sell it as a new takeoff and buy an aftermarket, if you choose.
Did Cabelas discontinue the 204? I dont see it listed on their web site. Could this be an end of an era?
It's a 12 twist so it shouldn't need heavy bullets. It is brand new and has no copper in it except for the 30 or so rounds I put thru it. Maybe it needs some copper in it to fill the the bad spot in the rifling! I'm not going to take the time to send it back and wait on them to decide what they will or will not do to fix the problem. It's a $290 dollar gun. One more trip to the range with some other loads wll tell if I need to chop or swap. All I know is if it can't make sub moa it can't stay.
Call them they will send a call tag for shipping and they have been very fast for me with repairs.
I think I just bought a new take off in the classifieds here if it hasn't sold on another site he has it posted on. Time will tell. I hope it's a good one!
The 12FV 204s are history. Keep in mind that Cabela's is no more. Most Cabela's brand merchandise is going away and being replaced by Redhead which is Bass Pro's house brand and nowhere near the same quality. A short six months ago if you searched the website for "Cabela's" you would get almost 6000 products. I tried it today and got just over 2000. Hard to say if any of the firearms that are "Cabela's Exclusive" will survive the transition.
It was listed on the Bass Pro website. I assumed it wasn't listed on vista because the 12FV isn't a regular catalogue item, but nothing to back that up.
I see they are back listed as "limited stock". Must have found some behind the corner at the warehouse, or cancelled orders. Either way they are $90 off.
I placed my first (ever) rebate 1/1/2019 online, was pending until today I received an email approved and will be shipping in 3-4 weeks. I checked the website and confirmed it changed to qualified! That is about 5 1/2 weeks, I don't think that is to bad to get the confirmation.
