If they're on a "flat surface", no bending. If they're touching on the ends, they'll sag in the middle. That's why "standing on end" and not leaning to one side or the other is the best. The heavier they are, the more chance to sag in the middle. The line of least resistance.
Crank shafts are big on bending because of all the weight.
Take a fresh turned crank and check it with a dial indicator. STRAIGHT!! Lay it on an uneven surface for a while and check it again. Bent!! That's why standing on end is best.
You stole my barrel storage method. It took years of work, numerous prototypes, feasibility studies, millions in grant money, copyrights & patents. I had to ask my family to send lawyers (guns & money). This was the end result.
