Re: Savage 93G VS 93FV ??
pro: the heavier barrel / syn stock will usually give you better performance in the end as that combination is less apt to succumb to weather vs. expansion / contraction of a wood stock, and barrel harmonics are reduced with the heavier barrel.
con: it is a heavier barrel, and probably will become heavier the older you get.
still, for a groundhog setup, i'd go with the heavy barrel, especially if taking shots 100+ yards. the extra accuraccy / consistancy the heavier barrel gives at those longer distances starts to pay off for the weight factor, IMO.
Re: Savage 93G VS 93FV ??
I have the 93FV pre-accutrigger. Love it. I would go with the Heavy barrel for sure. In a rimfire i do not think it is all that heavy and is not a bother for me to carry on the trail at all. Mine is a tack driver with Win Supreme ammo.
Re: Savage 93G VS 93FV ??
The bull barrel will likely give better groups..be sure you get the accutrigger though..it is worth much. Just this past week bought a 93F for a "woods walker" rifle. I have bull barrels, but as Top Predator said, they have gotten heavier over the years !
I have an excuse though.... I'll be 75 in September.. :D
Re: Savage 93G VS 93FV ??
Go with the FV, mine weighs 7 lbs 2 oz with a Bushnell 4-12x40 and balances well offhand.
Re: Savage 93G VS 93FV ??
I have the FV. With My 4-16X40 Centerpoint, it weighs only 7.45 lbs. I have found it easier to hold steady while standing/aiming/hunting, with the heavier bull barrel. I would actually like to add some weight to the rear synthetic stock. Perhaps .5 to 1 lb. Any ideas? Nailed a jack at a measured 161 yards earlier this week. Today another at about (I'm guessing) 120 yards. I won't be going back to a .22LR for a while. 8)

Now you need to find some good ammo and scope.
Re: Savage 93G VS 93FV ??
Just purchased a Savage 93 FVSS and ordered a Nikon 3x9x40 Prostaff scope.I plan zero @ 100 yards with a Remington 40 gr JHP. This is going to be my setup for dispatching the wylie coyote.Just wondering if anyone on this forum is using a similar setup?

Yeah, a piece of 3/4 inch diameter PVC,2 glue in plugs, and some Copper BB'S. Cut it about 7-8 inches long and pack the pipe with the BB's and stuff in some cotton balls before you glue on the last plug.
Re: Savage 93G VS 93FV ??
My wife has the 93 with regular barrel and iron sights to boot, I have the heavy barrel with no iron sights. Now both have proved to be very accuate at 50 to 75 yards. I get .675 inches at 50 yards and .768 at 75 yards with my heavy barrel 93 Savage rifle.
Re: Savage 93G VS 93FV ??
As I said above, I have recently gotten a 93F w/accutrigger. I have had 2 Marlins in .22 mag, 2 Anschutz in .22 mag, an Ithaca lever in .22 mag and sighted in nothers for friends. Some of these were good, some weren't worth spit !
I sighted in my new 93 the other day..and I can confidently tell you it is the most accurate .22 mag I've ever shot !!
