After market triggers, Timney or Basix?
Hi all,
I'm new to this board as I have just bought a Stevens 200 chambered in 243 Win. It came packaged with a Bushnell 3-9x40 scope and it is intended to be a cheap and cheerful hunting rifle and for a bit of plinking down the range in between hunting trips. I only picked it up yesterday so I have not had a chance to use it yet but it seems quite sweet however, the trigger pull is a bit heavy. As it is a hunting/plinking rifle I don't think the pull needs to be under 2lb but I would like it to be lighter than it is at present.
So to cut to the chase, both the Timney 631 and Rifle Basix SAV-1 seem good (the Timney is marginally more expensive, but not too much so). So I am seeking comments/recommendations regarding these products to help me make a decision.
I am also thinking of getting a trigger pull spring gauge at the same time so any comments about the respective offerings from Timney and Basix would be helpful as well.
TIA, regards, Dave

Skip them both.
Those are about the same as a well tuned factory 3 screw.
If you want a truly better trigger. Go with the SSS or the SAV-2.

Thanks for the reply, I've seen the SAV-2 from Basix but I am unfamiliar with the SSS. Who make that one? Can you post a link?

Never mind you blokes, I found it: Sharp Shooter Supplies.
Ah the wonders of Mr Google.
Thanks again for your advice.

I've got the Timney unit in my FVSS and love it. Great trigger and easy to install. Great adjustment and a good hunting weight trigger. For the pull gauge, I've got the Lyman digital unit and it works great.

I agree with the SSS. Once you adjust it to your liking, it's a very nice trigger. Mine is currently slightly under 1.5lbs and has a very nice crisp break. If I build another Savage, I'm definitely ordering another SSS trigger.

If you are not set on the SSS trigger, I would suggest that you take a look at Northlander, a sponsor of this site. He sells a three screw trigger kit for a fraction of the cost of an SSS, Timney, or Rifle Basix. With a little bit of work to adjust it properly, my three screw trigger from northlander is just as nice as my rifle basix sav-1 that I had purchased for an earlier build.
Its no competition type trigger, but works for my hunting and plinking rifle.

JARD sells an excellent trigger for Savage/Stevens rifles. Comes with a new sear that corrects the angle as well.
I like both of mine.

What's the pull range the 3 screw trigger can be set to?

Re: After market triggers, Timney or Basix?
which ones are compatable with Left Handed, pre accutrigger actions?
Also, are any of these easier or more difficult to install?

Re: After market triggers, Timney or Basix?
The best trigger in existence is the Giessele Hi-Speed Match Trigger on my AR10. Paid about $300 for it, however the bone stock Accutrigger is dam near close to it, and it's free!

Re: After market triggers, Timney or Basix?
I've got my three screw from Northlander breaking at about 2.5 lbs. When I tried setting it lighter, I had problems with the sear tripping when I closed the bolt hard. Jim's trigger comes with the lighter wire (.040").

Does the Northlander trigger work with the Stevens 200.

Yes! I have one on my latest build

Re: After market triggers, Timney or Basix?
Is Northlanders trigger a good fix for a factory trigger that has an obnoxious amount of creep?
-
Re: After market triggers, Timney or Basix?
I have had no trouble with my Basix trigger and I can get down under 1 pound with no creep or slam fire.
