Need a decent cheap scope for my son's rifle. Rifle is a Steven's 200 in .270. It will be used for deer and hogs in NE Texas. Which scope? Vortex Crossfire 3x9x40 or Nikon Prostaff 3x9x40? Thanks in advance.....Darren

Vortex and Nikon are made at the same plant but Vortex offers a more durable housing from what I am aware. Optically the Vortex Viper is on par with the Nikon Monarch and the Diamondback is on par with the pro staff. The crossfire uses a lower quality housing and I am not sure about the glass.
It gets real annoying because everyone wants a $100 scope but with a little shopping or $50 bucks more they can get a seriously better optic.
My advise is to buy a Vortex Viper on sale at SWFA http://swfa.com/Vortex-2-7x32-Viper-...pe-P11226.aspx while supplies last.

I really like the glass of the Nikon, but you can't argue with the warranty of the Vortex.
I'd get the $99 Vortex Crossfire from SWFA.

I agree with the Captain! That 2-7x32 Viper is a SMOKIN deal!!!
Not to mention if you order it from Cameraland right now you also get a free set of Vortex rings and free shipping...

I believe he asked about the Crossfire, not the Viper. I believe the Crossfire is made in China and not the same plant as the Nikon. I think most Nikons are made in the Phillipines now.
Why are the 6-24x 50 Crossfires being sold at SWFA for $99 while everyone else is selling them for around $200.
The $99 is a 1" tube exclusively sold by SWFA.Quote:

Different animals.
I own 4 Vortex Crossfires now and really like them. They have a great no BS lifetime warranty and you can sell the scope and the new owner is still covered.
