Another Newbie to Savage question. OK, from what I read, Savage's model designations are 2 digits for a short action and 3 for a long action. I thought a .308 would be a short action but my rifle is a model 111. What gives?

Lots more to the story. Take a look at the FAQ section or perhaps someone who is willing to post all the info as I am just too lazy.
That wasn't true in the beginning. Then it was, and now just recently it is not true again. This causes a lot of confusion. Revently Savage went back to everything being 3 digits. One easy way to identify is going by action screw spacing.
I guess it would be too confusing for them to have a 110 model made in either a long or a short action version.
Yes, God forbid they should use 110L or 110S to differentiate between long or short actions. That would be too simple.
