What can I expect from my "stock" stock?

I have a new 12 FV and with the exception of a 20 moa ramp and some adjustment to the accu-trigger it is stock. I have the 75 gr AMAX shooting at .45" at 100 off a rest with a rear bag.

Next weekend I want to go to a 600 yd shoot. It will be prone and I will mount my old Harris bipod to the front swivel. Will the factory (not accu-stock) stock be stiff enough to keep the barrel free when using a bipod on the front swivel?

I know I will find out Sunday, but, looking for input from anybody that has shot the factory stock off a Harris Bipod.

I've shoot mine at 850 off my Harris Bipod and it hovers around 1.25 moa. I stiffened my stock with a heavy carbon arrow shaft and bedded the recoil lug. This is a 22-250. All this is with a 55 grain FMJBT 1/12 twist.

I was wondering if I was going to need to stiffen the stock forearm. The carbon fiber arrow shaft is a great idea. Better than trying to work aluminum. I have been wondering about the recoil lug, but, the gun is shooting well (.223) with the front and rear action screws taken to hand tight (and feels like full stop). Thanks for your suggestion. rc

I have two sa 200's and the stocks work just fine and both rifles shoot 1" class groups. Yes I can get it to touch the barrel but it takes some real effort but come on why would you be doing that in the first place.

I have 2 new rifles sitting here unfired, a 200 7-08 and a model 10 both in plastic stocks. It does not take much effort to make the stock touch the barrel. My FVSS at 200 yards shoots .5 moa, at 600 yards just under 1 moa and at 850 1.25 moa. It did not shoot this good before bedding and stiffening the stock. From 200 to 850 there is a lot that happens to a 55 grain FMJBT. The other 2 rifles are sporter barrels and they may or may not need to be bedded, but I'll still do it just because that is what I like to do.

I have 3 12FV's (22-250, 223, and 308). All of which shoot sub-MOA. I use a bipod on all of mine with no troubles at all. 2 of mine have the wider forearms and and the third is like the sporter style. The sporter styled one is the only one that has any amount of wiggle of the bipod and its not enough to matter.

Mine is not a wide forearm.

Spend $225 on a Bell & Carlson Medalist stock and don't sink any time or money into stiffening the "stock" stock.
