Is there something wrong with the 110E?

There's been a 110E for sale for a long time on a local classified site for what I think is a great deal.$250.advertised to be in really good shape.I can't figure why someone hasn't snatched it right up.Is the 110E some sort of morphodited model or something?

Are you looking to modify it or hunt with it? What caliber is it?

Its a 7mm mag.I was just thinking of buying but its been for sale at a good price for a long time.didn't know if maybe it was an oddball model that would be hard to get parts for.

I have one and they only difference I could see, was the pine stock, the E stood for economy.

And it should have a 2 screw trigger, but ya never know

Might be hard to modify it depending on when it was made, if it's an early model you could run into some problems.

The 110 "E" stands for "Economy" which means it was made with the least amount of options available, when you think about it, you can buy an Axis for $50 more than a used gun, probably has something to do with the price.

What sort of problems?

The early models used a totally different trigger assembly, and had a bolt head to barrel arrangement that was similar to a Rem 700. Anything made after '66 is all the same basic platform that is still used today.

If I bought it I was planning on swapping the barrel to a 338wm.could I use a modern barrel on an early rifle with the Remington style bolt head?

I don't recall personally working on one of the early style, but IIRC you can swap out the old style bolt head for a current style. An easy way to spot one of these pre-'66 Savages (unless it has been modified) is that the barrel has a "swell" in its contour under the rear sight. It's pretty darn noticeable.

May be worth looking at. As long as the bolt head looks like a newer style and the barrel has no bulge or swell (so to speak) then it's the same difference, but sometimes there is peace of mind in knowing you have a newer one for a build.

I'd take any Savage 110 or Stevens model 200 over any Axis. Offer him $200.

I prefer the old ones.:p
