I love the 150g Nosler Ballistic Tip in my 99 in 308...pushed by 45.5g of IMR 4895 and CCI 200 primers...note, this is above "current" published max load data, so approach with caution. Great bullet for deer, I've taken a pile of deer with them...I've never had one fail and they are accurate in everything I have loaded them in.
Dies....they will all work and last a lifetime if cared for properly. I prefer RCBS primarily because of their awesome customer service....but Hornady, Forster, Lee, Redding....they will all get the job done and everyone has their own opinion.
I would not personally shoot an above max load in my 99s....
It wasn't "above max" in the books when I started loading it over 20 years ago...most all the manufactures have since lawyered up and reduced their loads. "Max" loads from a book nowdays really means jack, every chamber is different...I have a 257 Roberts Ackley Improved that was built last year on a Rem 700 BDL action thats got a tight chamber and with some powders starts showing signs of pressure with mid-range loads with some powders. My 99 has never shown any signs of pressure with this load...and as always, every loader should listen to their rifle as they reload and pay attention. I've loaded this load for this rifle for well over 20 years and have I can't tell you how many rounds down the tube (1000+ easy)...and the rifle still consistently shoots sub-moa on my good days.
thanks found some hornady 150gr gmx but they say its a long bullet any thought on the powder
use hogden benchmark while the groupings the shell did not want to extract. no obvious shell swelling baffled
4895 is great in the 308 but i have found varget hard to beat, i also use it in my 300 savage. but then again 4895......well i don't know there are both great!
