I am new to the savage family. But I was wondering if it is possible to build a 17 Ackley Hornet on a Savage 10 receiver? Would a 223 bolt face work? Or how can it be done?
Thank you in advance

Hornet won't work because of the bolt head and feeding. You can do a 17 fireball if you wanted a small 17 cal round.
I am looking for a round that is very pelt friendly on fox at 75-100 yards. I have considered a 17 HMR but I think this would be a little small. And a 17 Ackley Hornet to be abuot perfect. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
you can match speeds on the 17 ack hornet with the fireball just don't run it at full throttle. a 20 vartarg would work too just load it light.
221 Fireball with 40 or 45 gr Hornet or Bee bullets. If you want smaller, I second the 20 Vartag. Works great. I have the 221 Fireball myself built on a Model 16 action. For pelt friendly, I go with a 45 gr flat nose Speer bullet and 3gr. of Unique. Its about 950 fps and very good for pelts out to 50 yards. It will still penetrate a treated 4x6 at 40 yards with plenty of authority.
The 17 Hornet is a rimmed cartridge. Why not use a Savage model 40, in 22 hornet, and rebarrel it?
