Not a Stevens (Yet) and not a long action but I have had two Savage short actions rechambered: A 223Rem to 223AI and a 223Rem to 221 Fireball. Both were well worth it.

i had thought of getting my 243 improved did you use your stock barrel or a new barrel
I used the factory barrels for both of mine.
