Using new brass to set barrel depth

This my first barrel replacement I was first going to make a 223 out of my 22-250 110 but had my doubts if I could do it , so I waited to get something else found a 243 to use the first I just bought a bag of new brass to use. Can I use them to set the head space ?
I still have the 223 just waiting to find a short action.

Also I am going to use the old wood stock that came with the 110 I am planning on bedding the action,do you just bed where the action screws are or bed on the sides also ?

Honestly, I can't tell if you're rechambering your .22-50 as .243, or if you're making your .223 out of a .243 instead of using your .22-250.

Buying a go gauge and a no-go gauge is "safe".
Buying just the go gauge is "cheap".
Not using gauges at all strikes me as "foolish".

I've tried setting headspace with a case before and never had much luck. Brass is pretty soft and it's hard to get a positive reading using just a case, whether it be new, 1x etc. A headspace gauge is absolutely the way to go, depending on which one you need you may be able to rent/barter for one here.

Even new brass should be sized during the loading process...too many variables...Just buy a set of .308 Head Space gauges (go/no go)and don't second guess yourself...

When I set headspace with brass, I always used 1x fired brass that has been sized in my FL die. Like Capt said above, too many variables with new brass. I will say that I have not had any issues using the 1x FL sized brass as a go gauges and scotch tape to make it a no-go. The safest way is the go/no-go gauges if you are just starting out. No matter which way you go take your time and pay attention, its not overly complicated if you pay attention.
