One more question on the 200
Should the stock touch the barrel anywhere along the barrel channel at all ?? I just noticed Savage Arm's has changed their web-page, I was thinking I read somewhere the Model 200 had a free-floating barrel. On my rifle the stock touches one small spot on the left side of the forearm.
Re: One more question on the 200
the barrel should be fully free floated.
Re: One more question on the 200
I always demmel off the inside edges of Savage synthetic stocks for that exact reason. Once you open it up some, it'll never touch the barrel during normal use.
Re: One more question on the 200
Exactly what kinda groups are these things supposed to shoot? If a $250 gun shoots a 3/4" group are you seriously gonna screw with it. What happens if it shoots worse when you float it, because it is a possibility. Shoot it before and after floating and post your findings. I suspect you'll notice nothing, but since its free, do it.
Re: One more question on the 200
I wish I had taken a photo of the rifle before and after. I mean it wasn't but a smidgen touching the barrel, I took the stock off and took a broken broom handle wrapped in sandpaper and maybe sanded for 5 minute's putting it back on and off to see progress. Got it to where I wanted and snugged everthing back together. Went to the bench, which is the back yard, shot a 3 shot group at 100yds. I sure aint no BR shooter but I'm stepping high ;D Hoping I can get the pic's uploaded.

Very good Now aren't you glad you bought a Savage product. :) :)
Re: One more question on the 200
How many Remchesters will do that. GO SAVAGE!
Re: One more question on the 200
You were using your assembled hand loads for the above results ? or were you getting groups like that from a factory load. ? ???
Re: One more question on the 200
That perticular group was my hand loads. But.... Winchester factory load 100gr. power-point will group like that. ;D
