Chambering WSM head in small shank barrel?
I know the WSMs are normally sold with the large shank barrel. Due to the unique cartridge restrictions in Indiana, there are a number of wildcats based off WSM cases which are legal for deer.
I have a small shank action Model 11; would it be safe to get a small shank .358 barrel chambered for one of these wildcats or is there not enough metal around the case with the small shank barrels?

Savage is the only company that I am aware of that offers a large shank action and barrel in the commercial line. Remington with their Saum and Ultra Mag case offerings are the same size as the Savage small shank.
I am currently shooting a 338WSM in both large and small shank Striker. Same load, same velocity, no problems.

Interesting. I'd need to talk to the 358 BFG manufacturer then, because I just went to their site and they singled out the 358 BFG as their only chambering which requires the large shank.
