blued vs stainless for build?
I'm planning on acquiring a Savage or Stevens rifle for my first build project. Most of the aftermarket drop-in barrels appear to be in stainless; the best bargains on used rifles around here are blued. I don't really have a need for the stainless.
Other than it looking strange, are there any problems such as bimetallic corrosion with putting a stainless barrel on a blued action?
Is there a source for cost-effective blued drop-in aftermarket barrels?
Re: blued vs stainless for build?
No corrosion problems between the two metals.
Midway usa sell A+B barrels and they are blued and cheap.
May not have the caliber you want.
I prefer stainless barrels myself.
Re: blued vs stainless for build?
for the price difference and resale value of the barrel you would want to go SS.

Doesn't look strange at all. Here's an older post on the subject:

Lots of good looking rifles is that post...
Oh, and welcome to the forum.

I actually like the look of a blued action, stainless recoil lug, blued barrel nut, and stainless barrel.
It is basically just personal preference, with no advantage either way.
