Finished painting my Hogue Overmold

I have been searching for a CF Short Action DBM stock for a while, and really liked the look of the HS Precesion in Olive with black web. I didn't really want to spend $360 on the stock for my build, so I finally settled on a Hogue overmold with DBM for $99 on Midway USA. The forend was little flimsey, so I cut a few carbon arrows and dremelled and bedded them in the forend which really stiffened it up. Then I set out to customize the paint a little. I read a bit about people not thinking that the overmold would do well with any painting. I finally stumbled on a webpage somewhere that a guy had done it with pretty good results. His biggest tip was to use acetone to really get all of the oils, etc. out of the rubber before applying the paint. In case anyone is interested, and would like to try, her is how I did it, and some pics.

1. wipe the stock down very liberally with acetone and let it dry for 10 minutes or so.
2. I used krylon fusion ultra flat camo green and applied probably 6 coats over a couple of hours. Usually waiting around 10 minutes or so between coats.
3. I let the krylon cure for 3 or 4 days to completely dry, and then applied the krylon black webbing paint per the can's instructions.
4. Let the webbing dry overnight, and then applied krylon satin clear coats. I probably applied 4 to 6 coats right off the bat, allwoing about 1 min between coats. I let the clearcoats dry for around 2hrs, and then used fine steel wool to ruff up the gloss a little and make more of a matt appearance. THen applied 2 more coats and ruffed them up a little after about another hour.

Here are some pics of the final result. I have my kids .243 mounted in it now with a SSS mag. I am waiting for my E.R. Shaw .243 barrel to arrive, and I'm still shopping for the scope that I will put on her. So far, I'm very happy with how the paint turned out! I like it

is that the one ? and also it says its for a detachable mag. was your gun originally a detachable mag gun or will this work with a gun that has the blind mag if i buy a mag from midway also ?

yea, that's it. No, my rifle was originally a centerfeed blind mag. I ordered the bottom metal(mag frame) from SSS as well as the new shortened front action screw. Then I purchased a SSS 9 round mag that fit right in. If you want to convert your blind mag, you will need the bottom mag cap for snap on your mag box, or you can just purchase a short action mag from midway.

Keep us posted on how durable the Krylon is on the rubber.

will do GaCop. I have alot to go before it gets much use. Gonna add a new barrel, scope, rings, mounts, recoil lug, bolt handle, bed it, etc. etc. Hopefully get some range time by month's end .

Hi, I try to keep my Savage Stevens 200 light and convert it to DBM. And would like to know if you guys know the weight of SA hogue overmold stocks?

I see there are two interesting alternatives.
11100 Pilar bed.
11102 Full bed.
