Not the usual Barrel Swap Question
I just got a used Savage 12 LPRV right bolt, left port. The barrel looks massive, in terms of girth. So it begs the question, do I need a different barrel or can I use the Savage 10 barrel. The reason being that my Savage 10 currently has a LW 6mm BR barrel on it, and the 12 just seems so much better built, I thought about swapping them around.
Plus the 12 is chambered for .22-250 which is a caliber I have little interest in. The gentleman I bought it from says he shot about 400 cartridges through it. And yes the factory barrel was pretty fouled with copper, which I have removed thanks to KG 12. But that is another story..
Re: Not the usual Barrel Swap Question
Check the barrel diameters at the chamber, isn't the LRPV a large shank barrel and the standard 10 a small shank?
Look at the threaded portion of your barrel if it has a step in front of the threads, it's a large shank barrel whereas the Model 10 is a standard shank diameter.
Re: Not the usual Barrel Swap Question
as GaCop says, the LRPV is definately a large shank barrel, and your model 10 should be a small shank barrel, unless the action was originally a WSM action.
Your best bet would be to just sell the 22-250 barrel if you dont want it, then just buy another large shank barrel.
Re: Not the usual Barrel Swap Question
I guess I will need to do just that. Or maybe swap the Model 12 for a Model 10 or F/TR

Think the F/TR is gonna be a large shank too.

In which case I will need to buy a barrel :)
