New 12fv barrel problem
I jumped on the sale at Cabelas and picked up my 6.5 creedmoor last week. I checked it over in the store and it looked good but I left my little flashlight in the car and I didn't get a good look at the muzzle until I got home. I have the same gun in 22-250 and the crown looks perfect. This one looks like it wasn't chamfered and the bore is oblong. Attachment 4017Attachment 4018Attachment 4019
The shiny spot at 11 o'clock in the middle picture is where it's oblong.
I'm thinking it won't shoot very well like this. I don't want to mount a scope and waste ammo if its hopeless.
Any comments or suggestions?
Thanks
Dan

Try it first and see it is shoots or not. Or contact savage...they should take care of it.

Had the same roughness on the crown of my new 12 LRP in 6.5 Cm. I just took some 400 grit paper, some gun oil and gently removed it. Then, I took a .40 cal RN bullet with medium grit abrasive and added a very small radius. Shot 1 moa before, now shoots 1/4 - 1/2 moa.

Picked mine new 12FV in 22-250 today in Hamburg, Pa and looks fine...No burrs or defects at all....A mid week barrel guy did me good....

This thread got me looking at my 3 different 12FVs. My .308 and .223 look fine, but I think there is a burr on the .22-250. Guess it's time to do a little lapping...
