Getting ready to buy a model 111 30-06 and Im wondering what grain bullet is most accurate with the 1-10 twist rate of the barrel.
Im thinking Hornady Superformance 168Gr would be a real good start?

The 30-06 10 twist excels with a 180 grain bullets and heavier but you can shoot anything you want. 150 and 165 class do fine as well. don't be afraid to run it slower if you don't like recoil. I have a R 15 load with 165's that feels like a 308.
Recoil don't bother me at all.
Ive got some 225's Ill run through it after I scope it in with 168's.
....Thanks!
I've got 2 hog hunters and both of them love Hornady 150gr Whitetails.
I use a 150 gr Speer Boattail with 59 gr of H4350. I have had good results with this load. Where I hunt you take shots from 10 to 200+ yards.
Sorry, I misread the title. I also have a 111 in 30'06 with a factory stock.I've shots lot of different kind of factory ammo.I've have horrible luck with anything with 180gr.
The best factory ammo I've shot is Hornady SP, Winchester PP, Remington Cor-lok all in 150gr.
The best I've shot is 1.5in groups.
What kind of group of group are you getting with your reloads ?
The groups are consistently under 1" at 100 yds. I don't have access to a range with longer distances so I have never checked how the loads groups farther out. I have hit animals 200 yds out and they went down with good hits. I am more of a hunter than a shooter so I have never refined the load.
I have a Savage 11 in 7mm-08 that with factory Remington Core-lokts would shoot 2" groups at 100 yds. My handloads will consistenly group under 1" for that round as well - 46.5 gr IMR 4350 with 140 Sierra Boattails.
Thanks for the recipe. I've got some Hornady 150gr SP interlocks on order. My brother in law is going to reload for me.Im more of a hunter also, and will never probably shoot over 250yrds, but I would really like to get my groups under an inch with this gun.
Check out barnes copper ammo. We have to use copper out here in California and I picked up some barnes vort-tx ammo for my 110 in 270win. Most accurate ammo I have ever shot. Gun shoots about 1 moa with the factory lead ammo it likes and closer to .5 moa with the barnes. You want to use lighter weight bullets with copper...push me' faster and help them open up. Kinda pricey stuff at about $2/round but if your using it hunting only it's no big deal. I still shoot lead at the range.
