Son didn't have shell in holder completely
And forced the cartridge up and broke the decapping pin. The side of the shell is caved in. Now I get a ring about half inch below the shoulder. Is my die screwed now. I can buy new decapping pins, but the ring around the casing is kind cut into the shells. its like a deep scratch. Any info on this blunder?
Re: Son didn't have shell in holder completely
found why. it was deburring tool marking
Re: Son didn't have shell in holder completely
??? Having a hard time understanding how a deburring tool could scratch cases 1/2" below shoulder........................If you are using a die w/ an expander ball also chk that the stem hasn't been bent. This can cause the expander to pull the neck of the case off center line of case & be detrimental to accuracy. We've all had your problem at one time or another (broken pin) Good idea to replace the STEM, as well as, the decapping pin.

the inside of this goes over the top of the shell to deburr the outside of the mouth. the bottom was rubbing against shell as i would spin it.leaving the ring.

Nice pic Leo............ NOW I understand :D

Remove the decapping stem roll it on a table. You will be able to tell if it is straight or not. When you put it back together and snug things up it should be in the center of the opening. If not replace it as well. Order parts from the manufacturer or a retailer.
