If you want to throw cheap lead try casting your own bullets. One if the .416 cases may offer you what you are looking for if it dose not have to be paper or plastic. Not sure how you are going to get your smooth bore barrel though.

Re: Call me crazy but....
If you dont want a smooth bore but a rifled bore...Since The Judge fires .410 and 45 colt in the same gun. What if you found a 45 barrel and rechambered? Not worth a darn with shotshells but may work out pretty well with slugs.
Re: Call me crazy but....
If that doesnt work out,you can always find a .41 barrel. They have to make them, i mean 41 Mag and all.
Re: Call me crazy but....
Ive rebarreled to 444 marlin ,its not bad just not my thing .i have also done 458x2,458 win mag,45acp.jut for kicks.

Re: Call me crazy but....
450 Marlin would be much easier to do with a standard bolt action.
Re: Call me crazy but....
you could do a 458 socom with a 223 boltface. Dont forget the 338 spectre.
Re: Call me crazy but....
I was thinking this would a southern Michigan deer rifle of some sort.
We are not allowed to use rifles in the southern half of the lower peninsula. So i was thinking a bolt action rifled barrel slug gun much like the 212 or 220 but starting out with .410. If i can come up with a .410 barrel i thought there has to be some way to load a .41 pistol bullet into a .410 hull.
Re: Call me crazy but....
Saami Specs for the 410 gauge 2 1/2" chamber look similar (but different) when compared to the chamber diagrams of the 405 Winchester
Midway stocks two bullets in that caliber, 300 and 360 grain. Not cheap, but perhaps doable.
The devil is in the details, however.
Keep us informed as to how this works out for you!
Re: Call me crazy but....
I was wondering the legal distinction, You going to have a rifled barrel? On an action registered as a rifle?
Re: Call me crazy but....
With a rifled barrel it is not a shotgun.
The Taurus "Judge" has a rifled barrel. Therefore it is not a shotgun and can be sold with the short barrel it has with no extra stamps/paperwork/forms, etc...

I don't know about that. There are a large number of shotguns (Rem 870, Mossberg 500, many, many others) sold with factory rifled barrels and many aftermarket rifled barrels that are legal for use in "shotgun only" areas. I expect the definition is base on the ammunition allowed.
