I would like to build a benchrest long range rifle chambered in the 6.5 x 47 Lapua. Can I buy the Savage precision action and change the bolt head and fit a Pac-Nor barrel to it.

If you buy a standard (308, 6mm BR etc.) action you shouldn't need to change the bolt head right? Isn't the new Lapua round based on .308 case head dimensions?
Yes the 6.5x47L uses a 308 bolthead, all you would need is to screw the barrel on and go.
Yep thats what I did ..... best thing I ever did , this thing will go to 1000 yds and less than half the kick an 20% less powder and the bullets are cheaper and it shoots great 6 shot group @ 200yds .234 not too bad for a krieger barrel.
hi, what exactly is the 6.5x47?
Case dimensions are simular to a 308 but the round was developed by Lapua
like a .260?
Kind of, but much much better. The case is closer to the dimentions of a 22/250, than a 308.Quote:

Nope that is a 6.5 x47 remington, not the lapua round.Quote:

SSS has made a round off of it called the 22 sharpshooter. It is more efficient than a 22/250.
