Take a brass case and loosen the tension enough that you can barely slide the bullet in and out by hand. Set the bullet in to about a 2.95 COAL. Then slowly load the bullet, very carefully pushing the bolt until you can lock it. Then extract the dead round and measure the oal. This is your 'to the lands' length. Honestly, 2.65" is way short. My fcp-k is good to about 2.84" with the 168smk.

Broke in the barrel with shorter 2.61" 150gr manufactured rounds and still can not get it to accept anything longer than 2.65". In fact the bolt would sometimes jam after firing. Local gunsmith suggested to take it up with Savage due to it being a number of reasons. So will get to see how Savage's warranty and repair system is like.
