What do I need to look at or who to look at for the bits needed to do it myself ?

I have an older 110FP .308 that is still an amazing rifle so something along that line is the goal.
Thanks

I'm no gunsmith - but the rim diameter is larger on the 6.5 x 55mm. That means bolt face work or a new bolt head.
How about a 6.5-06 A-Square? Kickarse wildcat.
65-06-a-square
You will not need a new bolt face for the Swede! All you need to do is change barrels.
6.5x55 Swede ammo that is made in America, i.e., Remington, Winchester, Hornady, etc, has the same head/rim size (.473) as the 30-06 family of cartridges. Even if you use European made ammo, it still would work due the the tolerances of bolt head sizes.
Yep, no issues with the bolt head. Every type and brand of 6.5x55 I have tried in my rifle fits the bolt face perfectly with no issue.
I really love my 6.5x55. When I wear out this barrel, I will go back to this caliber instead of any other 6.5 caliber cartridge.
6.5 Swede is ok.., but I would also vote for 6.5-06. Good friend recently did one of these in his Mod 70 30-06, and it is simply amazing! 6.5-284 would be another to look at. And being long action, the bullets could be loaded pretty extreme OAL. Heck, I run 260 Rem, and even it surpasses 6.5-55! But still a sound cartridge.
For any any of these, all you will need is a barrel. (Is also rec. an aftermarket, machined barrel nut & recoil lug. Just inexpensive insurance). You will also require an Action wrench, Barrel Nut wrench & at least a Go Gauge. Good luck.
No problem running the swede on 06 bolt face. The swede can be squeezed a little hotter than the 260. Love that old classic
As others have said, there should not be an issue with the bolt face. My donor was a 111 30-06. All I changed was the barrel, even the factory dbm works fine. I use Lapua and Norma brass with no issues.
