Question, has anyone ever used MinWax Finish on a gun stock
Clear poly? Tinted? Spar varnish? Minwax makes alot of stuff.
I have brushed clear poly on a couple stocks. You get drips and runs, but they can be sanded out. The final finish was'nt deep enough for me.
Just used auto clear coat for the first time. Thats where it's at if you want alot of show.
If your poppin pigs in the woods, go for it.
I've used Minwax Helmsman Spray polyurethane with good results.
you just cant beat truoil.

Sure have!
I mostly use the wipe on poly, after finishing a stock.
Polyurethane is the toughest off the shelf finish available to most folks. Automotive clear coat has fewer pigments in it, so it does look much "clearer" vs oil based Poly's, but it is not as durable. The newer water based Poly's are clearer than the traditional oil based Poly's, again as they have fewer pigments to cloud them up and they also have less of the "yellowing effect". Water based poly's will not have the yellow cast to the finish.Quote:
