Have seen a few posts re using a thinner wire for the stevens trigger. Which size wire am I looking for? Is there anyone here still sourcing them? Thanks, Matt.

.040, Don't know if that person still has any left?
243 shooter is the member that had the wire. As of about a month ago he still had some.
Charlie
Thanks Charlie, I could not remember who.
As of the middle of December he stated that he still had a lot left. I got some from him and it works just fine.

I bought a 1oz (large) spinnerbait at Academy for around $2, enough for 2 maybe 3 triggers. I'm sure any store that caters to fishermen will have them. Buy the ones with the large spinners and long wire.
I was able to find a generic pack of throttle return springs at the local parts house that was helpful. The coils are useless, but the long extensions on the ends of some were just right. I forget the diameter, but I just snipped off an end and bent it like stock. And you know it's spring steel that way as well. Everybody is right though; awhile back someone was offering their extra for free.
Most hdwe stores will have spring wire in the .039 to .041 range. I bought a 3' pc. for less than $4. It will do a lifetime's worth of triggers.
I just used a safety pin.Got enough for two triggers from one pin.Dial verniers said it was .041 dia.Works fine for me and really really cheap ;D
Ok I'll check it out thx. Went to the range today and that trigger was killing me.
Just did my trigger tonight. Super simple. Replaced spring wire with .040 ( took longer to remove stock than to bend wire and replace), adjusted travel and creep. I do not have a trigger scale, but I went from a very heavy, creeping pull to a crisp, much much lighter pull. Guessing near 2#. Was planning to purchase a SSS trigger, but I think I will hold off for a while and buy more bullets and powder.Got the wire from a fellow shooter on this forum, but have misplaced his name and address. If you're reading this........... THANKS FOR THE WIRE.
This feed may be of some help to you. http://www.varminthunters.com/tech/savage/
Tried the lighter wire and the sear mod, still not impressed. Going to go with an aftermarket. Thanks, Matt.
Did you adjust out the travel? When you take out the grittiness by adjusting the allen screws, it usually gets pretty good. I am unsure as to what weight you are seeking, but I haven't had a factory trigger that I couldn't get down to at least 3#.
