Is this the baffle i need?
I have a stevens 200 that was a 223, i changed it to 308, but i need the shorter baffle. This is the only short baffle i could find but it says for 110. The one for savage 10 is the long style baffle like i have already. Are long and short action baffles the same? http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct...tnumber=128320
Re: Is this the baffle i need?
Yup, you got it!
There is an even shorter baffle, but it is only seen or needed in the WSM's (and the RUMs perhaps).

I see that baffle is on backorder at Midway. If you need it faster you can buy it from Numrich Gun Parts for $3. I just bought one from them and had it in 4 days.

Got to ask.
OK, bought a 223. Wanted to change to 308. DO I ABSOLUTELY NEED A NEW BAFFLE?
Changed the bolt head, ejector pin, and adjusted the extractor. Looks like it works, cams open and shut fine. Headspace sets.

It probably wont eject a live round cause the 223 baffle will not let the bolt slide back far enough. The only difference in the two baffles is the extension on the side, and the reason for that extension is to limit bolt throw for the shorter cartridges.
Now if the 223 you bought happens to be an older model that is on a long action, then the extended baffle will work just fine for the 308.

also you wont be able to use the mag, i have been single loading. Getting a live round out is a major pain.
