Thank You.
I have one in transit and want to try to start working up some loads. I worked one up for my Dad's Savage Model 11 that really shoots with a 50 grain V-Max, but I'm thinking I might want to go a little heavier for more versatility.
If anyone has any pet loads that they would like to share, I'd appreciate it. Meanwhile I'll be scanning the Reloading Forum.
I have the Savage model 16 also, what powders & bullets do you have on hand?
AG,
For powders I have AA 2230, W 748, Rel 15, Varget, and IMR 4895.
Bullets: Speer 50g HP "TNT", Nosler 55g Ballistic Tip, and Hornady 50g V-Max.
I was hoping to go a little heavier to make use of the 1 in 9 twist. Maybe a 65g Gameking or even something from Barnes that will not fragment so violently.
Open to any suggestions--The rifle still hasn't arrived. Thanks.

With heavier bullets, any of the other powders would work just fine. I have had good results with 748 and 69grain match bullets.

Thanks for the replies. I'll give the 2230 first dibs.
I notice you have Varget. 60 gr. Berger Match W/26.0 of Varget is great in my mod.12 1:9. You'll need to work out your OAL. Every one is different but this will give you something to start from. Have fun on your search for the best. Quick
The Powder W748 is my favorite for the smaller loads 34's up to 55, the AA2230 is perfect also with it:
25.0 grains 2230
Lake city brass 08 On sale now 1,000 new cases for 120.00$ at Natchez
CCi 400 primer
55 Grain Nosler start at 2.260 OAL
1/2 MOA is average of 10 shots. @ 100
You have got some very good powders to use and try.
My 1-9 twist .223 shoots the 75 Grain Hornadys great! use Varget 23.0 grains with these componets.
The 60 Grain V-Max shoots the best at Varmits out to 300 yards or less. (Varget)
