Axis barrel swap
From FAQ:
Q: What is the action screw spacing on the Savage Axis?
A: All Axis models have the same overall action length and have a screw spacing of 4.800". Those chambered for S/A cartridges use a S/A length magazine and trigger guard piece while those chambered for L/A cartridges use a L/A length magazine and trigger guard piece.
This means if I have a 308 Axis and want to swap to 270 all I need is a barrel, magazine and trigger guard? Have 30-06 and 270 barrels so all I need to find is a magazine and trigger guard, get head space gauges and swap parts.

Thanks, was going to look for rifle to use but if I already have one parts will be cheaper. I also have a Stevens 200 SA I can use for my 243, 308 and 7mm-08 swap.

I went the other way. I bought a left hand Axis in .270 Win. Then I took the .270 barrel off and sold it cheap to a friend whose Savage 110 in .270 had a rusty chamber. Next I added a .243 barrel and since it was not feeding to suit me, I added a short action mag and trigger guard. The main reason I bought the Axis in .270 is that it was the only left hand Axis in the Academy inventory and I got it for 20% off with my employee discount. Plus I knew I had a buyer for the barrel. I got the trigger guard fro Savage and they refused to charge me for it. The mag came off the gun shop shelf.

Sounds as if you came out OK on your swap. Found trigger guard and magazine for less than $50 shipped and will be able to use one gun for all my calibers. Have 243,308, 7mm-08 in short action and 30-06 and 270 in long action. Still looking for 22-250 and 25-06 to add to collection, will swap barrels around for deer hunting as the urge strikes.

The Axis action screw spacing is the same on long or short action but some add-on stocks like Boyd's require you to specify long or short action.
