Closer to a decision..I hope
I asked for input here in another post and received a nice range of options. I'll shoot mostly from a bench and like everyone else want the smallest possible groups. The suggestions ran from getting a FV and making changes to suit me or buying a used benchrest rifle that should already shoot pretty well.
So, I kind of split the difference (at least in my mind): I've decided on a Savage single shot. Now I need to find the best one for the least money. I've been looking at the classified on several sites and checking the usual auction sites. I found a couple up for auction and have a few questions:
1. Is there any reason to not buy an older Long Range Varminter with the dual port action instead of the more expensive Long Range Precision that is produced now?
2. What would be the approximate cost to change the action parts to a small .378" bolt from a .478" (not counting the barrel)?
3. How does the AccuStock compare to the HS Precision stock that comes on some Savage rifles?
Answers to these questions and any other advice would be much appreciated.
