I'm guessing these were offered in what...the 1910's-20's? Can't say I've ever seen or heard of one before, but the earliest catalog I have is 1937.
-
That catalog is a #65 which puts it at 1929.
-
The catalog pictured has a price list dated Jan 2, 1929 & sometimes the same catalog will sometimes have an Oct 1928 price list - so it was probably first marketed late 1928 and was only made for a few years - remember the stock market crashed in 1929 & the great depression started, expensive toys like this were a hard sell, you could buy a real single shot 22 for a lot less and that could put food on the table if need be. Ammunition for these is quite expensive these days - a 20 round package just sold for $102.50 + $3.95 shipping (I didn't get it!) - http://www.ebay.com/itm/171673994179 (and I heard lots of people complaining about the price of 22 ammo)

Saw those on there Gene, figured you'd be on them but I can't believe the price would go that high.
Saw a regular old rear sight for a 99 sell at $102 as well, maybe the markets gonna come up some, time to sell soon, maybe Mike was right about the March Madness on Ebay.

I had a bid in, but it wasn't even close to winning. A couple years ago another sealed bag sold & brought even more, if I remember correctly. I managed to get a sealed bag and an open partial a few months ago so anymore I will be bidding low on them just to try to get a bargain. If I had just a sealed bag I would have had to open it so I could display the balls so getting one that was already opened was a real plus.
Here is the play rifle on display, the 'ammo' is in the lower left of the case - http://www.savagefest.net/SavageFest...x.php/GEDC0287

What are they made of Gene?
I always thought they were rubber.

Dark red Bakelite - very brittle from what I hear, I talked to a guy who said he shot one a couple times & the balls shattered on a hard surface. I don't think I will shoot any originals, with them bringing over $5.00 each!

Haha, must have had the same guys that were making the 1899H buttplates making the ammo for the toy guns as well.
