Anyone know what a Shilen varmit barrel weighs?
what length, shank size, and Contour?
was looking at one from NSS its a 26 inch stainless in what he calls varmit for a 204 ruger. Small shank. Thanks.
Mcgowens website says 4 lbs for a 26'' savage varmint contour.
My Shilen is heavier then my Mcgowen , both 26" small shank. The Shilen measures .890 at the muzzle vs. .750 for the Mcgowen. The Shilen is a 25-06 and the Mcgowen is 6.5x55. Both were ordered from the manufacterer as varmint contours. So the Shillen should be heavier then the Mcgowen. But i don't know the actual weight.
I called Jim the other day and he weighed the barrels for me. 4.5 lbs for the Shilen varmint and 5.75 lbs for the bull, both in 26" lengths.
Your McGowen is not the varmint profile if it measures 0.750 at the muzzle. That is what McGowen calls a Light Target ball. I got one in a 308W in that profile for my 11 yr old to build his first rifle. McGowen's Savage Varmint measures 0.800" at 28". TimQuote:
