I just Bought my second Savage American Classic ( New Pictures Added)
I bought a Savage American Classic off of GB yesterday and it's a Model 114 in 270 Win. This dealer actually puts up pictures of the actual rifle instead of stock pictures taken from the Savage site. This one has what looks like an outstanding stock with great color and grain and I can't wait to get my hands on it. I won't buy sight unseen when a dealer posts stock pictures of a rifle especially one with a wood stock.
I should be here next week and once I get it I will post pictures. The Model 14 in 308 Win that I bought 3 weeks ago is a great rifle and if this one shoots as good I will be thrilled.
I added the dealers stock pictures but I will update them to my pictures when it arrives. I like pretty grain and mineral streaking in the wood.

Awesome! Hard to beat a .270
Re: I just Bought my second Savage American Classic
very nice. Seems they are using better wood on some of these newer "classic" stocks.
Re: I just Bought my second Savage American Classic
You hit a home run with that stock. Nice go'in.

I'm posting pictures of the actual rifle that arrived and I'm very pleased with the rifle and especially the rifle stock.

very nice .
comparing the pics you have obviously polished the barreled action and made the stock much more glossy. What did you use on the stock? It really brought out the woodgrain nicely. I have a 116 w/a stock similar to your quality and wanna bring out the wood grain in it.
Re: I just Bought my second Savage American Classic ( New Pictures Added)
Don't ever let that one go, cause they don't make'um like that very often. You got very lucky, congratulations. :)
Re: I just Bought my second Savage American Classic ( New Pictures Added)
I didn't do anything with the action it just looks shiny because of the flash. The stock I used Watco Danish Oil Finish in natural on it and I did about 3 coats and it added the shiny luster to it and it did bring out the grain more.

WOW!!! I WANT ONE TOO!!!
Who's the dealer?
Re: I just Bought my second Savage American Classic ( New Pictures Added)
On Gunbroker the seller (a Dealer) goes by the title Dutchmanshooter in OOSTBURG, WI 53070 and they put up pictures of the new rifles they sell instead of stock photo's and you get that rifle when you win it. I've bought two Savage American Classic Model 14's from them the other being in 308 and it's nice but the stock on this one is special.

I am willing to bet that is an example of Turkish Walnut. It is similar to examlpes of Turkish walnut I have seen. Good catch buddy. That is definately a legacy pc. The kind that gets into wills.

Swwet. Did you steel wool the original finish first or just go over top of it. I definately need to do that to mine.
Here it is now.

Re: I just Bought my second Savage American Classic ( New Pictures Added)
If yours has the oil finish already you just need to put on a thin layer of the Watco Oil and let it soak in for about 15 to 20 minutes then wipe of any excess and then let it dry. Then do the same until you get the level of gloss that you want. If it has a gloss finish then you need to strip it after removing the stock from the rifle and then I sand it, followed by steel wool, and then apply the oil.

I took this gun to the range today and besides having a great stock it's a shooter. Probably not to you die hard one hole at 100 yard guys but it is under an inch at 100 yards so for a hunter like me that's fine and I'm happy.
Re: I just Bought my second Savage American Classic ( New Pictures Added)
Cool. Thanks for the info on the finish.
Good shootin as well!
