SA bolt changes required to shoot 223
I am going to purchase a SA Savage tomorrow and wonder what is involved to be able to change over so that I can shoot 204/223/Tac20 with the standard SA. What is involved with a bolt face change over? Will I need anything other than a new bolt face? TIA
Re: SA bolt changes required to shoot 223
If you're buying something other than a 204/223, you'll need a bolt head, extended front baffle thingy and a mag box.
If you buy a 223 or 204 you won't need anything.

It's a 7-08 donor. I am interested in a 20 caliber of one sort or another. What's involved with replacing the bolt head and "baffle thingy" :)

you do it at the same time as the head. Need to be a repeater or single shot?

It a repeater now, but I am not sold on the idea. It will be a bench type gun, so feeding it manually is not a show stopper either.

What is the extended front baffle thingy ? I changed my 243 over to 223 and just changed bolt head with a SSS follower and it seem's to work fine, did I miss something ???
Re: SA bolt changes required to shoot 223
The extended baffle is used so you don't have to pull the bolt so far back. It has an extended piece on it that hits the bolt stop before the regular baffle would. It's not necessary but doesn't hurt either.
Re: SA bolt changes required to shoot 223
The extended baffle is great, I use them on all short cartridge guns, 6ppc, 22br, 6br, 6x47 lapua, etc. That little bit of shorter bolt throw makes cycling rounds a tad bit quicker. For the life of me I will never understand why Savage doesn't place them on the 6br guns.
