6mm BR Lapua brass sizing problem

I have some 6br brass that I have loaded 9 times
It was annealed after five firings
My problem is no matter how far I set the shoulder back, it still hard bolts
I have found the problem to be at the base area of the shell
It measures .0005 to.001 larger than new brass
Light rub marks appear in this area after being bolted
I annealed a few again with no change

Has anyone seen this before?
I thought I would get more loads out of the brass than this
Not complaining, just curious if others have had this problem

I've had that happen with a Lee .243 FS die. I was not sizing the brass to spec. I bought a new one & had no more problems.

The defective die was sent back to Lee for repair TWICE & it still doesn't work right.
I'm working on a letter to Lee Precision for when I send it back a 3rd time. I'm having trouble leaving out the curse words.....

My dies are a forester full length and redding body die
Same results with both
I'm beginning to wonder if the brass has gotten too hard at the base and is springing back

From reading other posts, it sounds like you need a "small base" resizing die that resizes the brass all the way down to the bottom.

The problem is the dies doesn't fit the chamber, and what your experiencing is what we call a "Click." This happens much sooner using neck sizing, and resizing after a couple of firings with a body die. The brass is trashed. What is happening is the pressure of firing keeps beating the back half of the brass, and without it being sized back it stays. Yes you can use a ban aid fix and get a small base die, but you are still going to have a hard primary extraction after firing.

To properly fix the problem I would suggest you get rid of the neck sizing and body dies all together, get a good full length die, set it up properly, get some new brass, and put 30+ firings on it.

If you have a chamber that is on the minimum of sammi spec it is going to take a small base die. If I read your post correctly you have a hard bolt closing on loaded rounds not on extaction after firing.

After reading 82boys post I remembered that this 50 rds of brass was neck and body sized sized a few of times
I full length size only now with a forester f/l die, bumping the shoulder back .002
I did order a small base redding die and will let you now if that does anything with this particular brass

The same thing is happening to me.It does not do it with the new brass also Lapua until it is fired a few times.I F.L size with Hornady custom dies..I been just living with it..It has got to be the brass..Maybe I will try a small base as well...Glad to see I aint the only one it's happening to...John

I have Lapua cases that have over 50 firings on them, all full length re-sized with a Forster die and have never had a problem with enlarged case heads. Once the case heads are that big that they bolt down hard, they are junk. As 82 boy stated, a small base die is a band aid fix.

I was told at the shoot today to try a 308 or 243 die..it might work.i am gonna try it.take the insides out though

I received the small base die yesterday and it sized the brass back to "new brass" size
Now to see if it stays that way-- i do have my doubts

I got a chance to shoot the body sized brass yesterday
All is well (for now)- no stiff bolt after firing, brass is behaving at this point
It will be interesting to see how many full length sizing I can get before I will need to use the small base die again
