I've always wanted a Swift and I now have a Model 12 single shot short action ready to go. Does anyone here shoot a Criterion barrel in 220 Swift? What is the normal twist for these barrels? I doubt I'll shoot longer than 300-400 yds here in east Tn. so no need for heavy bullets. Mr Briggs is out west hunting so I didn't get any answers today.
Savage is 12tw every other MFG who chambers this round seems to go with a 14tw, I personally have a 16tw McGowen, I have had all three and the latter is by far my best shooter and favorite.

What load do you use with the 16tw? I'd like to stay around 50 to 55 gr but lighter wouldn't be a deal breaker.
Hey Slim I know I am going to get grief and raged on, due to the fact that they are hot loads and over recommended pressure, and children and farm animals might get hurt so let me put a disclaimer, these are my loads for my guns not yours mine, they work for me they probably will not work for you due to the fact that my guns are special, now that we got that out of the way here's some data,
RL15 and Varget use same amount with slight advantage to RL15 these numbers are rounded off and speed goes up the hotter the barrel gets.

We normally use a 1-14" Twist on the 220 Swift, but it is all dependent upon bullet weights and velocity.
50 gr ballistic tip in a swift hitting a ground hog makes something that you pick up with a scoop shovel! They don't run away!
Hold your speed to 3800 and they last a long time
I ordered a Criterion 26" varmint with 12" twist from Jim that hopefully will be here before the year is out. Looking forward to working some loads and making little bitty holes with it.
