Re: Recontouring a barrel
...I'ld just buy 1 myself, before I'ld turn it down..
Re: Recontouring a barrel
I'd sure try to buy one as well.
Maybe locktite barrel nuts in place and have a fast switch between the bull barrel and a sporter?

Re: Recontouring a barrel
no guarantee it will shot the same or better.
Re: Recontouring a barrel
Is that one of them I knocked out to AI for you?
Re: Recontouring a barrel
I bought a Dougless unturned blank on sale for cheap$$. Contuored it myself (took off a lot of material!) and it shoots lights out. Never chambered and shot it before contouring so I dont know if it was bad or good for accuracy but I am very happy with it.

Re: Recontouring a barrel
I have no personal experience with this, but what I have read, mainly on 6mmbr.com, is that there is no guarantee that it will shoot as well. There are a lot of variables concerning the stresses applied to the barrel and all sorts of metallurgical issues. Hopefully someone who knows about metallurgy will pitch in here.
Re: Recontouring a barrel
I've read that as long as the extra material is taken off slowly that it wouldn't effect accuracy. The extra weight helps with rapid fire type shots. Heats up slower than a thin barrel.
But, as everyone else has already said, no guarantees.
What's the cost difference between buying new and having that one turned down?
How many shots down the tube? What length is it? 10 twist? Stainless or moly?
Finally, how much you want for it? ;)

250 +- down the tube, 1-10" twist Stainless Mcgowan and let me think about it
Re: Recontouring a barrel
i can't recontour a barrel because my lathe doesn't have a taper attachmen mcgowen could do it.
Re: Recontouring a barrel
sinman, I offset my tail stock and ran the other end (with a lathe dog) on a dead center to contour mine. Not to bad of a job but a taper att. would be much nicer.

Re: Recontouring a barrel
I think McGowan will do it for $35.
