The 22 Savage Hi-Power was the product of the inventive genius of Charles Newton and first appeared about 1912 in the Savage Model 99 lever-action rifle. The cartridge was first called the “Imp,” and in Europe it is known as the 5.6x52R. The Hi-Power was created by necking down ...

While much of the industry was sitting back watching to see what was going to happen with the overall market that was still in the process of resetting after the boom years, Savage Arms decided to be aggressive and introduced more than twenty new models to the catalog for 2016 - half of which are brand new designs.

In January of 2013 Savage Arms announced an all new rifle chambered for an all new rimfire cartridge. The rifle was their new B-Mag bolt action, and the cartridge was the .17 Winchester Super Magnum. The first B-Mag rifles started showing up at the dealers in late summer and initial reports for the sporter barreled synthetic stocked model were ho-hum to say the least. Accuracy was sporadic and a good number of buyers experienced feeding ...

In my never ending quest to simplify and speed up my reloading process I decided that it was time I try out one of these new-fangled electronic powder dispensers/measures. Up to this point I have been using a Lyman No. 55 powder measure and a Lyman beam-type scale to dispense and weigh each and every charge. A random Lee Dipper scoop would be employed to "trickle" in or scoop out a few ...

The fine folks at Savage Arms have been trying to regain a foothold in the American shotgun market for a little over a decade now. In 2004 Savage brought forth its first non-bolt action shotgun in over 15 years - the Russian made (Baikal) Stevens Model 411 Upland Sporter side-by-side 12-gauge shotgun. It was a nice looking, well made scatter gun with an MSRP of just $395, but it disappeared from the catalog after just one year.

One benefit of the Savage platform, whether it's an Axis or a 110-Series, is how easy it is to change barrels and how readily available pre-fit barrels are these days. Even though pre-fit barrels are intended to be ready to install right out of the box, it is highly ...

If you’ve been a gun nut for any length of time you’ve surely learned that in this game sometimes you just have to man up and spend some money to get the quality that you really want. Whether it’s for a precision rifle, match grade barrel, competition ready pistol or in this case a top of the line scope, the old adage of “you get what you pay for” still applies in certain instances. That’s just what I did earlier this summer when I finally broke down and purchased the scope we are looking at today, a Vortex Viper PST ...

Savage Arms has discovered that the bolt on some B.MAG rifles may inadvertently catch the safety button and slide it forward into the "fire" position. This condition is primarily present if downward pressure is applied to the bolt too early while pushing it forward. While Savage has received no reports of accidents due to this condition, we have decided to offer free retrofits of all B.MAG rifle bolts out of an abundance of caution and in our ongoing commitment to quality and safety. ...

Scout rifles were first defined and promoted by Jeff Cooper back in the early 1980’s as a new class of general-purpose rifles. Such rifles are based around a bolt-action rifle chambered in .308 Winchester (7.62x51mm), are less than a meter in length, weigh less than three kilograms (6.6-lbs), come with iron sights, are fitted with a practical sling (such as Ching slings) for shooting and ...
