If there's one item every gun owner will have a need for at some point and time, it's an effective way to safely and securely hold their firearm. Mounting optics, cleaning the bore, adjusting sights, bore-sighting, etc. are all much easier tasks to accomplish when the firearm is securely held in place. Enter the Tipton Best Gun Vise.

The Best Gun Vise features three supports that can be adjusted vertically as well as laterally along a t-track in the base. This allows the vise to hold most any type of firearm including AR-15's, break-actions, bolt-actions, lever-actions, handguns, and most anything else. The flexibility of the design combined with the well thought-out adjustments truly allow the Best Gun Vise to live up to the old adage, "one ...

As many of you already know, last year I received a Model 210 FT turkey shotgun from Savage. I have been quite pleased with it so far. It aims well, cycles reliably and isn't overly heavy. About the only thing that I found a little disappointing was the patterning of the factory choke tube. Since turkey season is upon us again, it was time to improve that situation. ...

Turkey hunting has become quite popular throughout most of the United States and Canada. Successful conservation and management by the federal, state, provincial, and local wildlife agencies as well as hunters has provided more turkeys than ever before. With all the interest shown towards the sport, it's no wonder that most firearms companies have at least one offering in their line up for turkey hunters. ...

Every week we see questions about scope quality and opinions about scope brands X versus Y with the inevitable comments being thrown in about how brand Z makes them both look silly. We decided that it might just be time to do some semi-scientific testing of our own. Since nobody here on Savage Shooters staff owns their own laboratory, nor are we scientists where this particular field is concerned, we would have to be as scientific as we could manage. Luckily enough, while I dont own or work in a lab, I do happen to have access to one, as well as the resident PhD in charge. I threw in a little real world testing for good measure in what I hope is a fair, controlled test.

    The Scopes

We didn't really choose the scopes for this test. ...

Browse through the optics section of any popular message board or forum and you'll quickly see that the most frequent question being asked is "Is Scope X any good?" Now read through the replies and you will see a number of comments from people claiming that it's either great or horrible. However, not one person mentions what they are comparing Scope X to. Scope X is great in comparison to what? Scope X is horrible in comparison to what? Simply stating an option on something without a direct comparison to something else and providing no technical data to back it up doesn't tell us anything.

This is why we decided to group the following scopes together in a heads-up comparison rather than simply reviewing them individually. All three of the scopes tested here are high quality scopes from some of the most recognized names in the business, but nowhere have I ...

When asked to do a write up on the new LEVERevolution ammunition being offered by Hornady I jumped at the opportunity. Being a collector of Savage Model 99's and various other obsolete Savage firearms, the new LEVERevolution line of ammunition is a Godsend to breath new life into these classic firearms. For this particular review I will be using a rather rare Savage ...

Over the past three years I have reviewed a number of Savages more feature laden models, but to date I have yet to put one of their entry level models through our testing. I decided to change that and this month offer a Model 111GL chambered in .25-06 Remington. The Model 111GL falls into the Hunter Series of rifles along with all of the 11/111G and the 11/111F models. ...

We really live a time of technology. Every time we turn around, there is always something coming along to make life a little easier, and shooting is no different. Since serious shooters are always looking for ways to get more accuracy and precision from what they shoot, we look for every possible edge to give us influence on that performance. A tool that will allow you get an accurate sense of the conditions you are shooting in would be very helpful indeed.

Well, there is such a tool, the Kestrel weather meter. This little fella is small enough to carry absolutely anywhere and easy enough to operate that anyone can use it. The unit itself made of weather resistant, strong ...

I don't know how many times I buy a rifle just to take it home so I can start customizing it. First I change the trigger. Then I have to change the bolt handle. Then before long I'm changing the stock for a model that's more comfortable and the list goes on and on. Before I'm finished, I have more invested in it than if I would have purchased a rifle that's already customized to my liking. ...
