Selecting the perfect rifle scope for a new rifle has become quite an arduous task. Thirty years ago that choice was fairly simple as you essentially had two major brands (Leupold and Weaver) and a limited selection of fixed and variable powered scopes. My how things have changed as today we have literally hundreds of options to choose from. ...

When I finally got my project gun together I needed a good quality well-built scope base and ring system, but there was a hitch, I needed the lightest thing possible, so weight was the biggest factor, so that my gun would weigh in at our goal of the 10.5 lbs weight limit. The slightest ounce would make or break this goal, I did not want something cheaply made, or lightly built. I need a tough mount that would allow the gun shoot repeatable and hold zero. I also needed a set up that the rings was very close together, due to the scope I wanted to use being so short. This is when I learned about the Talley lightweight scope mount system that they offer.

    Before this, I had ...

Two years ago when Savage Arms first announced the Classic series of centerfire rifles, those of us who are lefties wondered how long it would take them to offer a left-hand version. For 2008 that question has been answered. Another added bonus ...

A while back the topic of 35mm lapping bars, and sources for the same were being discussed. Mr. John Werre of Kokopelli Products and I became engaged in a conversation regarding his Accurizing Kit and the need for it versus just getting a steel or brass 35mm bar, lapping the rings and calling it good.

Quite frankly, I didn't think I needed an entire kit and thought that it was overkill. After some emailing back and forth, Mr. Werre offered to provide us a kit to try and evaluate for the site. I choose a 35mm kit as most of the staff have a 35mm scope. As the timing worked out I was the fortunate one to test the kit. My choice of words will become clear as you read on.

It's no secret that Savage has decided to get into the F-Class game. This should prove to be very interesting since F-Class is one of the fastest growing shooting sports in the world at the moment. Savage has entered two models into this sport to become the only major factory to have a dedicated line of rifles for F-Class use. ...

Game Reaper scope mounts are relatively new to the gun market, and they are a product of DNZ Products located in Sanford, North Carolina. The mounts are made by Certified Machining in the same location. Considering how many firearm related products are now made in China, it's refreshing to see an American made product.

Game Reaper mounts are machined from billet aluminum into a single piece mount. There are no moving or adjoining parts other that the ring caps. Multiple piece rings/bases will allow for rings to come loose from their bases over time which will let the scope start to wander. On this mount, it is all a single piece of aluminum. The machined billet also allows the base to be light weight while remaining strong. The ...

The camouflage pattern used on the Predator Hunter works very well in masking the rifle's profile in a grassy environment.

In recent years Ron Coburn and his team at Savage Sports Corporation have made a significant effort to update their model 110 centerfire bolt-action rifles. This effort has brought forth such features as an all new magazine system, the revolutionary ...

For two years now I've been looking high and low for just the perfect scope to mount atop my Savage Model 93R17-GLV in 17HMR. I had a specific set of requirements in mind for scoping this rifle, but as I found out finding a scope that met those needs was easier said than done.

The first candidate was a BSA Sweet 17 4-12x40mm with the calibrated elevation turret, but it fell way short of my expectations in regard to both quality and reliability. Second on the list was a Bushnell Elite 3200 4-12x40mm with a ballistic-plex reticle, but the stadia spacing didn't come close to matching up with the 17HMRs trajectory. Several other scopes found their way on and off this rifle, but all were pretty much temporary

One of the questions most often asked on this website in regards to reloading or hand loading if you prefer is What is the cheapest way I can get started in reloading. The answer is simple enough. The classic Lee Loader.

This is without a doubt the least expensive way you can enter the reloading scene. For just about twenty bucks invested, you are almost halfway home. Everybody has a hammer lying around, the only other equipment really needed. Although I always used a plastic mallet and highly recommend one, it is not entirely necessary. This is the little package that can and did get me and many other people started in the reloading hobby.

Inside the convenient plastic box is a neck-sizing die, a de-capping pin, a primer-seating tool, powder dipper and a bullet-seating device. Also

The FAT Wrench comes nicely packaged in this easy to open blister pack.

In today's highly competitive market, companies catering to sportsmen often introduce a multitude of products that for the most part are useless and serve no purpose other than to lighten the customers wallet. Fortunately there are also a large number of products being offered that meet a specific need or perform a specific task that is commonly encountered as well. The hard part is weeding through the advertising dribble and determining exactly which category each product falls within.

The Wheeler Engineering FAT Wrench (Firearms Accurizing Torque Wrench) is one of those products that falls within the useful category. Anyone who regularly works on firearms know the dreaded feeling of stripping out a screw by over tightening it ...
