• The infamous "What model should I buy?" question

We see it over and over again; new members come on the board asking which model Savage rifle they should buy. This simple answer is that we don't know because we don't know how you intend to use it, what your tastes are, or what cartridges you prefer. However, here are some basic guidelines to help you along the way...

    1. Determine what you want to use the rifle for. You're going to spend a good chunk of change on a rifle, so you should at least have an idea of why you want it and what you intend to do with it. This will also help determine what cartridge it should be chambered in, though in most cases there will still be numerous suitable chambers available.

    2. Do you have a preference for stainless or blued? If so, that automatically eliminates a number of options for you to help ease your decision.

    3. Do you have a preference for magazine type? If so, rule out any and all models that aren't available in that configuration.

    4. There's no such thing as a "do it all" rifle so get that idea out of your head right now. You can't have a rifle that will be lightweight and compact for deer hunting in the mountains but also doubles as a stellar 1,000 yard bench gun. It's just not gonna happen!

Beyond that it basically boils down to personal preference.
